I've previously yahoo messenger as part of yahoo go version 1 on the N73, however since upgrading to the N95 & As yahoo go is now on version 2 there isn't a messenger with Y!GO2.

On the N95, Msn messenger is supported however yahoo messenger which is a stand alone app is not. This is supported on the N73, so i have been able to download & correctly install on the N95 anyway, it looks exactly like msn messenger.

ONLY PROBLEM IS ITS ALSO CALLED MESSENGER & I CANT HAVE MSN & YAHOO INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME AS BOTH PROGRAMS ARE CALLED MESSENGER, I SUSPECT ITS THE SAME PROGRAM DESIGNED BY THREE HOWEVER ONE CONNECTS VIA A YAHOO SERVER & THE OTHER A MSN ONE.

Since i dont expected three to merge both messengers is there a way it can be done or at least install both yahoo & msn messengers when both programs want to overwrite each other when installed.

Thanks :dead:

Hi ahus98

Sorry this does not help you but could you answer a question for me please?

I have an N95 on 3 and was thinking of putting v20 on it but would like to know if you have got all the 3 bits working and if not all, which one you have got working and which you have not.

Thanks Sicknote

I've got the generic firmware version 20 running fine, have loads of software, from three i particularly have....

Skype
Mobilcast
Msn Messenger
Yahoo Messenger

For others like slingplayer & orb, they are available from places such as

http://gerrymoth.vox.com/library/posts/tags/n6120c/

Additional applications can be downloaded directly, i.e yahoo go, alternative msn messenger apps, gmail, gmaps, etc. Most useful apps from three still work yes, your services and settings wont be an issue you can still use all three's services on your N95 as i do.

Even if you dont take the internet access package, you can still access

Ebay
Messengers (MSN & Yahoo)
& I can login to skype, i guess receiving calls will also be free of course no making calls unless you have an internet package or you rather use iskoot with your WLAN.

Hope that answers your question :cheeky:

A quick note on yahoo messenger

Both Yahoo & MSN Messenger are free to use on three, well at least their contract customers, which means you dont need an internet package to login & chat. However this only applies the apps supplied by three so if your using another version of the software it will use your internet data.

With regards to the msn yahoo issues which overwrites each other when installed together on the N95, i've solved this by installing the older msn which is called msn messenger, where as yahoo is now "messenger"

So i used the latest yahoo messenger & a older msn, this way they can both be installed on the phone, they are both running fine, the only thing i think is lacking from msn is the insert emotions n stuff, i can live without it for now though.

Why i love the three versions of yahoo/msn is that the application can be Hidden (exited really) it leaves the server in a logged on state so when someone sends a message your phone is prompted to launch the appropriate messenger (via a coded message to your sim/phone) to receive and chat therefore you do not always need to remain logged in to get messages. I must admit some messages get lost but its not that bad.

Well i've uploaded the N73's version of Yahoo which also installs fine on the N95, however slight problem as mentioned its also called messenger so if your using the latest version of msn i posted, this yahoo messenger will overwrite that version.

To sort of solve this i installed the previous version of msn which installs as MSN messenger & only then can this yahoo be used. I wonder what is different with the msn on the N73, is it still called msn messenger or is it called messenger? anyway, here is the link

Download 3Yahoo.zip (http://www.maxevans.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/programs/3Yahoo.zip)

One issue i find is when it requests a network connection to complete the installation it sometimes stops there if connected to 3, you can either let it use your WLAN or no network at all, i guess it would work the same, i just put the phone in offline after it connected at that point.

Does anyone know how to change the name of installed program?
I did it once last nigth by fluke but removed it & when i tried again it didn't work, i edited the JAD file.

There are already loads of posts regarding getting apps to work, either look in the 3 content services or the nokia n95 sections. U can get msn and other all over, even a previous link in this posts take u to a site to get 3 apps working on a generic firmware.

Has anyone tried yahoo, is it working for u, any issues yet?

My one is workin fine, only issue i found apart from d naming is that d status "away" has vanished when it was there before a couple days back.

Strange

Strange

Mine keeps asking for acces point even after "signed successfully."
I have also got 6120 locked to 3 on which yahoo, msn skype works without any problems.
My conclusion is that a 3 handset should never be unlocked in order to retain most of those services. And if you are happy with 3 why bother? If a user wants to upgrade than sell it to another potential 3 user! I know everybody has their opinion and I respect that.

If your application keeps asking for the access point this can be solved by going into the application manager, find the messenger then option>open, this will allow you to specify the default access point as well as allow always under connectivity.

This will solve that issue.

As for the firmware / unlocking, yes it works best with three firmware when using three's services however no phone is perfect, especially with the N95 & since its release there has been important updates for gps, power improvements, speed and memory. For anyone not to want these improved, they probably bought the phone for style but not to use.

Anyone using this phone to its potential, will find many problems with it, thus its always a good idea to have the phone unlocked and running the latest generic firmware as the networks just can't keep up to date with nokia's releases.

Most if not all applications still work, perhaps not 100% same as when using three's firmware, but its almost just as good, so with all the benefits, it is worth it to most.

Now if only we could find a battery sollution that works....
