Hi!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas break..

Anyway,
I had two contracts on vodafone one of which expired a few days ago and one of which is 6 months old.

I want to port the oldest number to the newer contract (which is 6 months old)... I have been told this is completly impossible which I find very unlikely but even if it if impossible per se to swap numbers on active lines.. surly someone inside Vodafeone could close the active account then instantly open a new one for me with the number I want.

I dont care about the number on the newest contract at all and dont mind if it is lost.

The fact that I could easily port my number to another network just p's me off as Vodafone cant even do something simple like close/open a new account

Does anyone know of any ways to get this sorted out as I quite like Vodafone but if I am forced to buy out my contract to close the account then I certainly will never use them again.

Regards,
Scott

No networks will allow you to do this. What you have to do is port your number to another networks payg sim and then port the number back on to your voda contract.

What you will need to check is voda's porting terms to see if there is a time limit to when you can port a number to them.

These guys are saying its impossible to port a number to an account that is already active and six months old..

If you can change the number of an brand new account you can change the number of an old account.

Surly they can just kill my account.. create a new one with the same customer details but with my old mobile number on it..

Telling me I cant have my contract with a mobile number I have had with Vodafone for 4 years but Orange etc could take that number onto a new contract is just really poor customer service.

What this complaint boils down to is no one in vodafone who I have spoken to can be bothered fix this.

Fair enough an old account might not be able ot have its number changed but telling me its 'imposible' is ********.. they could create a brand new account in seconds and use the number on that then assign that account to me and just close the one I have now.

Overall I am not impressed that I will probably be forced to leave vodafone just so I can keep my number.

You have to port a number at point of sale on Vodafone, so that won't work.

Before your contract expires, you have to request a PAC code and like others habe said, no mobile networks offer you to 'port' your number from one contract to another, effectively to move your account over to a new customer contract deal.

The best way is to port out and port back in again, Virgin mobile are a good contender for this. I've recently done this for someone who's not clued up on phone jargon and her No is now on a PAYG SIM. Pending a deal with a network who offers the best tariff to suit her needs I'll port the number back in to it for her.

Whilst I understand it is frustrating that you have to give a PAC at the point of sale with VF, I can understand why they do this. The amount of churned numbers that the networks must get through via new contracts, ported No's and PAYG SIM's that get used and then forgotten about and disconnected must be very high. Vodafone are only trying to be efficient with their number allocation ranges in respect of this.

I notice that 075xx numbers are also starting to make an appearance, mostly used by O2 at the moment I think. Historically only 077xx, 078xx and 079xx are allocated to mobile number ranges but they are obviously running short!
