Im located in the United States and am using t-mobile. I just purchased an unlocked, what I thought to be new, N-73 from Amazon off of Amazon.com.

Ok, here goes: turn the phone on and immediately get the message "startup failed. contact the retailer." after several tries and call, it finally takes me to the home screen where it says no cal. entries for today, so looks to be functioning somewhat. I still have the following problems that I know about:

1) when I go to the clock to set time or do anything, it says "system error!"

2) nokia updater does not recognize the phone as being connected to my comp.

3) seems a few things are missing. ex: I go to tools, settings, and I get a blank screen. It then exits back to the tools menu after a few seconds.

What do I do from here? When I called my service provider (t-mobile) they say the phone was used in singapore. It looks brand new, all packaged perfect, so I'm happy with the quality or "newness" if you will. I just want everything to function. Should I just return it to amazon? Or is there some hope?

Hi,
try hard reset *#7370#. Might help, but it seems that some ''amateur'' was playing ''inside'' without knowing what to do...

Im assuming you just push: * # 7 3 7 0 # in that order when on the home screen? I thought I had read somewhere that this was a soft reset. The only reason I say this is we had to do another process of turning the phone on while holding the *, green, and 3 key at the same time. It was this process that got us to where we are, past the "system startup failed..." message.

I will try the reset you mentioned in an hour. Hope it works, if not I may be returning it and trying to get a new one. Thanks very much for the help.
