Three has released a new MSN version however if your on a non three firmware you will not be able to download it. However i've done it and included it in the download....

PLEASE REDOWNLOAD THIS FILE & IT WILL WORK ON YOUR GENERIC N95, THE CONNECTION ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED

MSN Windows Live Messenger() (http://www.maxevans.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/programs/MMG.NokiaN95.C42048.R4710.LIVE.3UK.PROD.ENG.C.rar)

Although the install is fine for the newest versions & both previous versions (included) i'm still not able to connect due to uknown reasons.

If anyone, has msn messenger working on a generic N95 firmware, please let me know, also if someone who has a working msn please install or this version & see if its working,

Im not sure why, but i've got 2 N95's, one with all my software & one completely clean, both of them are not connecting...

I downloaded and installed it on my N82, by stripping off the certificate lines from the jad file, (not your link) and it works well, even works 'hidden' and your are prompted to start it by the phone instead of receiving those damned WVCI 1.2 SMS's from 525.

If only you could sign your own java apps or install your own application certificate..sigh.

Well im unsure whats new, there are few differences when trying to sign in of course & it looks slightly different, i would assume new functions but though i'd post it as i've been having issues signing in.

With the JAD file deleted the original install is fine, if the JAD file is deleted could this prevent the messenger from connecting somehow?

thanks

It may be because I was poking at the jad file, but i could sign in to yahoo or msn, and it had a vodafone banner at the top. how odd. Not tried yahoo messenger yet, as i cant change login, probably also because i was poking at the jad file.

Top Tip:

App Manager -> Messenger -> Open -> Set Default access point to 3, and set Connectivity to Always allow.

Unfortunately because it's not signed by a cert your phone recognises you still get annoying prompts.

Thus my plan:

Not sure about this signing stuff, but i never bothered, i probably could if i spend some time but i get most of my apps so i've not looked into app signing.

I actually learned something new about the N95 & i though i've seen all the menus already, didn't know that i could set specific options for some applications like messenger from the app manager, thanks for the tip, however its not sovled my issues & to be honest i dont know what the cause is.

I mean, three issues a download which refuses to install, so i deleted the JAD file, it installs fine but does not connect, now i read the message about signing, but if the app installed fine, would this still need to be signed, shouldn't it just work?

thanks

The jad file is essential, it contains configuration for the jar file that tells it how to connect. Just delete the MIDlet-Certificate and MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 lines from the jad and bluetooth it to your phone, it'll go online and download the proper jar file and install it with the correct configuration.

Then go to the app manager and set the access point and change the connectivity to always allow.

As it is not signed you cant change the allow application to start to become always allow, so it doesn't work properly when it is 'hidden', your phone will subtly prompt 'allow Messenger to start', and there is another prompt every time to allow network access, which means it's not as seamless as on a three official phone, which contains the matching certificate that it was originally signed against. I have a copy of the certificate but because you cant install it onto your phone as a trusted for java applications certificate, it is worthless.
