go into your settings, turn off the homescreen and set it to active standby.
i dont have my n95 the give you the exact setting you`re looking for but i think its the top setting, personalisation, standby,

Why even bother staying on orange's firmware, do they offer anything in particular which you might lose if you updated to a generic firmware?

If i were you i'd look into updating as i'm sure orange is probably still on the original version 10 of the N95's firmware.

I really disliked old orange firmwares they always suck.

Orange isn't a very nice company as well, customer services, not so good, only ever got one nice person on the phone, technically, they web services are poor & their upgrades / disconnections, just not good enough, customer loyality dont mean much unless you've been with them for ages so really its not worth the costs.

he might need line 2, so dont be 2 quick to assume the new firmware is better for him. probably will be - but just check before u upgrade as some orange only features wont work with v20

orange are not what they used to be and i agree their firmware usually sucks (orange is at v11 just now) but lets face it how often have you been able to get sense out of any network - especially 3 who take customer service to a whole new low.

I know all things new dont always work best, although generally V20 firmware works fine, i've had a couple crashes just by changing settings, but i did have weird crashes with the old firmware as well. I do use a lot of software so it could be that as well.

Now customer services/support, from experience i would place orange by far the worse. I've been with O2, Vodafone, Three, Orange & Carphone warehouse as providers.

O2 & Vodafone are ok but i would place Three next and Orange way below. I know its difficult to deal with three at times & you may need to call again. I've dealt with orange customer services, i've called regarding many issues, complaints, services not working, online services not working. I've spent good money & pay for their technical support went in circles (while paying)
for support, they do the same old crap. Email support was the same, no matter who i asked to speak to i got the same nonsense, one most annoying problems was their website online service which i cant explain how bad it was, it gave errors & said click here to send it to orange or something & then lead me to a dead link.

I complained via email & letter (recorded delivery), they didn't bother to even reply to either. About 2 months later there were problems with their system & said if any queries were submitted please resend them AGAIN.

Finally as i requested to disconnect my contract i had one understanding person who agreed this is not how it was suppose be, i should have had the problems solved & if i remained then the issues would be solved, unfortunately due to the same issues on other accounts i disconnected all orange numbers & never looked back.

Has anyone heard of how bad bulldog customers services were, orange did a good job as they did.

I can have a good Moan about three but no way were they ever as bad as Orange even 3 years back when their coveraged sucked.

Wow 10 Years, I can't believe it, that is forever like as long as good mobiles have been around.

They care not for their customers, we need to put customer loyality to the test, it they dont care to offer anything good, or good enough, its our duty and right to leave & take our numbers to another network which are likely to offer something better for a new customer.

So far for orange all i have to say is their SCUM, most that i dealt with just dont care & in this world we have too many with that attitude, so i stay away from such.

Merry Xmas & Happy New Years All

What you need to do is debrand your phone. It's quick and easy to do and you'll wonder how you ever managed without V20 firmware!!! Just do a search on debranding and you'll soon find guides how to do it
