Hi
I'm new to this site. I'm planning to shift to 3 from Orange with monthly mobile broadband and monthly voice and text plan. I'm not sure though if 3 has a good signal in my flat and in my work area. So I plan to test the 3G internet using a mobile phone as a modem. I found out that the 3 SkypePhone worth £49.99 for PAYG is a 3G mobile phone. So my question is....can i use that 3 SkypePhone as a modem to my laptop to access the internet? I plan to test it first in PAYG with £5 add-on for unlimited internet access for 1 month.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
as far as I know you can use the data bundle only through your phone browser.Any other internet connection might be charged...

i got mine the other day.....ummm.....the CD included in the box has a program for this particular mobile phone (WP-S1 a.k.a. Amoi 8512) and is telling me that I can use this mobile phone as a modem. After installing it and using the mini USB cable, I was not able to run the mobile as modem, all I got was an error message. There must be a 'workaround' for this...I haven't made an extra effort yet to find out why and fix it...I'll try my luck again and come back here to report what happened. BTW, the PC Synch works fine.

Sign out Skype or anything running on your handset. Now connect.

The Skypephone does work as a modem, hence coming with modem software. If you can use the Data Sync but not the modem it's likely to be a simple problem - when you connect the phone to your computer it goes into Data Sync mode (in which the modem won't connect). Simply cancel it on your phone (clear the screen so you are back to the startup screen) and it should work. If memory serves me correct I got a connection speed of around 150k, which is perfectly good for reading email, general browsing.
If it still doesn't work let me know.

Works perfectly as a bluetooth modem with a macBook. Absolutely no problem, even on PAYG.. 5£ monthly internet add-on and away I went. Speeds reasonably impressive too.

Hiya
Its an internal setting:
Just go to
Settings
Connectivity
Modem connection
Via usb or if you wish to use bluetooth then via Bluetooth!
use the provided modem software on the included CD, worked fine for me straight out of the box!
I wish more phones had this capability, I makes setting up much easier! (although it's a shame that they couldn't be bothered to put this info in the user guide)
My usual routine when getting a new phone is to go through all the menu options available, it's amazing what you can sometimes find.
