My wife and I have been with vodafone on a 3g contract for 2 years and one of the handsets has expired. As the contracts were for 18 months I thought I would visit the website to find out what else was available.
After selecting a suitable contract and handsets I thought I would ring customer services to set it up. This call and subsequent ones leave me suprised and disapointed, this is what I was lead to believe:

You cannot get an upgrade deal to one which is advertised on the website.

You cannot port out to a deal which is advertised on the website (as porting out is from one provider to another)

So at the moment I am trying to cancel my contract (I was told it could be done by e-mail to a given e-mail address but although it was delivered (twice) I have had no reply).

After reading this website it would appear that the contract cannot be cancelled by e-mail but wouldn't you think vf would of let me know!

If I get within 8 days of the end of my contract, by a cheap sim on another network, port out then enter a contract with vf on internet and port out back to vf I could take an internet deal? anyone any thoughts?

I might seem a bit patriotic to vf but I have had 4 years good service, and the internet deal suits me!

I think you should dump Vodafone and move to almost any of the other networks that would give you better deals.

Vodafone have rip off charges.

Have a look around and see what the others have to offer - and if you cant beat Voda (highly unlikely) stick with them but if they wont offer you the deal you want direct in order to stay with them so why should you?

that wasnt what he asked.

the problem you have is operators dont port internally. you need to get (for example) a Virgin PAYG SIM, port out, then port back in on the VF deal.

VF is notoriously difficult to submit notice too, but porting out to Virgin will solve that.

just make sure when you request you PAC, you wait 3 weeks, THEN go with Virgin. that then takes you up to the end of your contract before your number changes.

oh, and they should let you upgrade to a web tarif.. just do it online?

if not, ask to speak to retentions and they will sort it for you

I am with vodafone and have been for 4 yrs. This is what i do every year towards the end of my contract.
If you tell them over the phone that you are leaving, you will be transfered to disconnections who will then try to give you a better deal but they cant give you a great deal as you would get by doing it this way.

You have to give 30 days notice in writing,so do that,2 days later you will recieve a call asking you why you are leaving, say something like you've seen a better deal with 02.They will then try a give you a better deal just to keep you on vodafone.I got a free N95 95,500 mins 500 tex.120mb internet per month (worth £7.50 per month) and free calls to 4 vodafone users (worth £5 per month). All for £35 per month.

Even if you accept the deal and you see something better later, you have 2 weeks to change your mind,i have done this and they match if not better the deals on other networks.
Hope this helps

Ive been busy for a week or two, but in the meantime I chased up the cancellation of contract (which wasnt received -strange!) so a discussion then took place with someone called james who was very helpful, although he thought he could match the deal on the website but push comes to shove he couldn't so its back to the original plan but by written cancellation
