View Full Version : Bluetooth with BMW
I am trying to sync my N95 with a BMW with i-drive.
At first I could get the two paired, but the phone wouldn't establish a connection.
I debranded, and upgraded to V20, and now the phone does connect, although no luck with addressbook connecting etc....it's just the actual call that you can make.
There is a problem however, that it drops the call after a minute or so...the call rem ains active on the handset, but the bluetooth seems to drop.
It is something to do with the Lifeblog/sync settings, as that always appears on the handset when it happens.
I do not have lifeblog set up at all, though I do sync contacts and calendar with my pc on a daily basis.
Does any expert out there have an idea how I can fix this?
Thanks
Sounds like it's trying to synchronise with the car and having no luck doing it :( Have you asked on one of the BMW forums?
I have Take and Talk fitted which is slightly simpler but fortunately also slightly more friendly with this phone!
Yes - now it does connect, but more often than not, drops the call after 20 seconds or so, so that you have to use the handset. When it does this, the phone briefly displays the sync menu...so yes, it definitely is to do with the sync....
It even does this when I set the sync so that nothing should sync. There is one control that I tried to turn off but couldnt...On the sync menu, under PC SUITE, when you try to edit the CONNECTION SETTINGS, I tried to change the data bearer from bluetooth, but when I do this it says "unable to edit, profile is read-only"
I dont know if this would have solved the issue if I could change it or not - I was just playing around really.
HEEEELLLPP! (please)

This is a common problem with the Bmw bluetooth, contact bmw to see if they have the latest update.

Yeah, it sounds like it's a problem with your car. Have you tried pairing with a VW Golf?

Hi.
I have the same problem with my Range Rover. I thought it was the phone and got a Samsung G800 to try that as my last phone, a Samsung G600 worked fine. The G800 had the same problems as the N95. I rang Samsung yesterday to see if maybe the G600 was Bluetooth 1 compared to the Bluetooth 2.0 on th G800. Samsung said they are both bluetooth 2.0 so it can't be that. They said it is probably the different software that the phone uses, which is probably the same with the N95. I have also tried an Iphone and a Viewty. Although they don't drop the call, they don't automatically connect to the car like older phones I've had. You have to repair the iphone each time and the Viewty had to have the passcode re-entered each time. I have decided to keep the 8Gb N95 and just use a separate bluetooth car-kit. I am going to try the new Ventura mini car kit which passes the call through the radio using FM waves and also shows the caller ID on the radio screen using RDS. We'll see if that works.
