But it's only available for the N81! What the hell Nokia?

Doesn't the v20 f/w have ngage demos pre-installed?
i'm on about the full service, with the xbox live style interface and the option to download full games.

Only time will tell but IMHO games will be just too simplistic mainly because the reference platform is available for the n73 which is a slow-ish device without 3D acceleration unlike the n95.
You're not going to get games with awesome graphics, just very basic java type games...
There will be nothing special about ngage games. You can already get more sophisticated games designed for the n95.

It will be available for other phones too but seems like the N81 will have it first.

I'm aware of that, I'm just confused why Nokia have chose to launch this on a handset which hasn't exactly set the world alight.

The N73 is not the reference platform. Games are being developed that won't run on the older handsets. When you go to download one of these you are told this may not work properly with your handset.
I'm guessing you've not seen the preview videos. games like One feature superb graphics in a 3D fighting environment. All the game charcters are 3D rendered too.
If you take the games out of the equation, the service itself is a total winner. Face it, Xbox Live is the leader in online gaming portals and Nokia have basically fully lifted it.
Don't think Ngage is going to like the System Rush demo, it's much more than that. Don't even think it's like the two game previews on the firmware update. Why they included FIFA 07 is beyond me, because FIFA 08 Ngage is brilliant.
Trust me. I've used it.

I remember over at AAS (AllAboutSymbian) they doing an article about the ngage platform.
Please Note: All of the phones listed in the poll are technically as good as or better than the N73, which is the reference hardware that Next Gen N-Gage games were written for. There is nothing technically special about Nseries phones, most of them do not contain any hardware to distinguish them from numbered or Eseries S60 models. The N81 does not contain a 3D chip, neither does the N73.

The thing is I've played some of these games which is available in java and they are just rip-offs from them. You can find tons of info about ngage here: http://www.allaboutngage.com/
Maybe I'm a skeptical but to me nothing has really impressed me. I've seen games that utilise the 3D chip and they have much better graphics... You can still have reasonable 3D graphics without the hardware but again I've played them in java.
We specifically asked the question to the Ngage lead designer regarding older handsets and he was really blunt. Technology moves on, and some handsets won't be able to support some games.
Don't forget though, the original Ngage actually had a couple of really great games.

I think that's the whole point... it hasn't set the world alight, so they're trying to make it more popular by launching Ngage on it. Just a view...
