Can any tmobile member of staff answer the following please:
On another forum it was mentioned that standard Web N Walk did not provide HSDPA connectivity only normal 3G connectivity. You apparently have to upgrade to Web N Walk Plus to get HSDPA.
I cannot see this mentioned anywhere on the Tmobile site. Now Tmobile have a few HSDPA devices out (LG Viewty and Nokia E51) can anyone advise if this is true.
If it is can you please tell me where on the web site it mentions this.
thank-you,
Mark

Its true. Regardless of whether you have a hsdpa-enabled handset the basic web and walk package (7.50 extra a month) only offers 3g speeds rather than the expected 3.5.
Came into effect a couple of weeks ago

Mark,
if you look at the bottom of this page
https://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/mobile-internet/on-your-phone/
and click on the "Web'n'walk the legal stuff link", it brings up a new window. At the start of all the blurb it mentions a "compatible handset", the first time HSDPA is mentioned is on the terms for the Web'n'Walk Plus plan.
I also know from experience, the time last year I upgraded to the Samsung Z560 as it was HSDPA. Testing it at work I only got up to 360kbps (CS). When I checked my profile it hadn't been updated to HSDPA. A quick phonecall later and I was getting 1.8Mbps (HSDPA).
It would appear just because you buy a certain handset and package, it may not be set up correctly.

There have been changes made, it will mostly affect new connections or users who have changed there package recently, dont quote me yet but i will get a clearer picture,
To get HSDPA you now must have WnW plus or Max, but that is dependent not on the handset but when the package was subscribed too. As Stated, No Quotes but confident this is from 1st November, a good example is Im on Flex 35 + web n walk, no plus or max, Iam enabled for hsdpa even though i have a samsung D900, my package was taken out in May 2006.
T-mobile is definetly putting structure into what you can and cannot do with your data connection, i will admit it hasnt been easily understood and basically confusing at times, espcially about what the user reads:confused: on forums, it always contradicts.
T-mobile being a business, will always launch new services, some fail, others dont, but web n walk had a huge impact, and took off quicker than than forecasted.
My opinion is Marketing has realised they have "something" and will slowly release it to produce the best revenue for the business.
Mercedes CAN build a car that lasts forever, but afterwards who would buy another Mercedes, business folds!
Will get a clearer picture
