View Full Version : Internet thru Planet3....slowww! advice needed
Have just joined 3 and purchased their E61 handset, or i should say it came free with the contract. I am new to 3g and all the services that are provided by the 3 network. I have purchased the internet add-on for £5.00 and have been browsing the internet thru Planet3 and find that the pages load sluggishly.
The biggest problem occurs when i use the back option to go back to the last page I viewed, it takes a full minute or more to display the last page and for that minute nothing happens, the screen goes dark and then after at least a minute the page eventually comes up and the screen lights up. Now what I would like to know is if i am doing something wrong or is this normal? I can't believe it is!
Any advice would be appreciated, does this happen to anyone else?

Fgf - I've also been having problems with the 3 network over the past two days. Normally though, Planet 3 is quite quick to load services. I called customer service (333 from the handset) and on their automated message they said that some customers are having problems.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
For when it does work though, try browsing outside of Planet 3, which I have found quicker. As long as you've got the "unlimited" £5 addon, it won't cost you any more (unless you exceed 1GB data).
Many sites have mobile equivalents - try http://mobile.google.com as a starting point.
Thanks Tag, good to know that the service is usually faster. Will try google mobile for sure. Got alot to learn with this new mobile and its without doubt the most complex device I've ever had.
Just one thing if I'm not within reach of wifi then the only other way to get to the internet is thru Planet 3 I take it or is planet 3 just a website and not a server thru which i get internet access?
Cheers
Planet 3 is more of a 'portal' as opposed to a way to access the internet. It's got a bunch of content, some paid for and some free, but it's not the only way to access the Internet. I guess like you said, it's more of a website than an access point.
If you're outside of Wi-Fi (which I didn't know the E61 has, but is pretty cool :) ) then you can still use your phone's built-in browser to access the internet, just by entering a web address. It will use the 3G network instead of Wi-Fi.
You obviously still can use Planet 3 to access most websites, it's doing essentially the same thing as your built-in browser once you leave the content that 3 provides on Planet 3.
Just a final note, if you don't like the built-in web browser, or Planet 3, then you can download an application called Opera Mini which is another mobile device web browser. I think the address is http://operamini.com from your mobile phone.
Hope it helps, good luck :)
