ffs.
ok got N95 8gb replaced due to slider quality. same issue - wobbly.
While checking the replacement I noticed if I look at the screen at an angle there are a few lighter bits up the sides at the very edges... just thin 1 pixel wide vertical areas which are brighter - about 3 "brighter bits" to a side maybe 5mm in length each.
I assume this is the back light... I just never noticed this on my first handset. Looks fine from face on however.
Requesting if someone could check their handset for this too - am I really this unlucky or is this common to all? as I say - only noticeable looking at the screen from a steep angle and on a light/white background).
thanks again guys.

If you're talking about the "flood lights" at the bottom of the screen this is just the lighting Nokia uses. Well every Nokia handset I've owned had this and even on their n800 internet tablet. I'm so use it, I don't notice it anymore.
The slider isn't perfect but the small give up & down is no way as bad as the classic where it wobbles in all directions giving you double press & double feedback on the buttons.
I say overall I'm very happy with the phone. No phone sadly will ever be perfect.... You get tons of features but at the price of some minor build quality issues.

yeah I totally agree nothing will be perfect but what amazes me is that a phone costing £500 can seem so badly built.
The N95 is without a doubt the most fully features phone out there and I love what it can do.... the experience for me is marred by the fact that it feels like its about to fall apart when I use it.
Incidentally I just had a play about with my mates sony ericcson (forget the model) but the slider on that is awsome! Sure its not a dual slider but it just oozes quality.... and cost alot less than £500!
Then comes the screen issue with the backlight - again, its not a BIG deal but adds to the overall feeling of poor quality. If I got this thing on a contract and payed nothing for it I could gladly overlook this - but this is half a grand of kit for crying out loud.
Anyway, I have decided to return it a second time and get a refund. I am beginning to think the only way I will buy another n95 is if I can go into a shop and man-handle it first to make sure its OK.

I know what you mean about the light.
To start with we all must have had problems with the original n95, anyone with half a brain to pay such money will see it is rather over priced. I didn't pay the price but got hold of one cheaper anyhow.
The official retail price or either N95 is way too much, u could buy yourself a PS3, or xbox or perhaps a new motherboard for your pc, along with a quad core cpu, perhaps some memory & a good graphics card.
Yes the N95 is nice, does quite a bit, good camera & excellent video recorder, gps which you need to pay for otherwise its (*******) useless . Yet as with all other products, it has its software faults & design faults. Its sloppy slide after a while, easily opened camera open lens (like in my pocket, it gets too loose. Small space for keys & the slight lip at the * 0 # keys.
Is the N73's front camera also better than the N95 (quality) well i think so, but sold it so cant compare really.
Obviously for those suckers to buy the new 8GB version for the bigger screen & same phone, its not worth the money only to be disappointed as nokia didn't do much but slap on a new screen and updated the firmware. If we all loved our N95's so much we'd probably skip the next 1-2 new nokia models but as we're not 100% happy we'll have to keep upgrading.
I took part in a nokia discussion, most people accepted the faults and said its a good phone, i say its a good phones but i dont accept the faults. Some bad designs & battery life is simply not good enough for the price. When the N95 is used efficiently but as it was designed, taking a few photos, record a video or 2, stream a little video and the internet, the battery can die in about 2 hours. When on standby making a few shorter calls, the bettery is can last for 2 maybe 3 days if you push it & have all power saving features active.
The battery provided with the N95 (classic) i would say the phone is not fit for its purpose as when you use it, the battery dies, when you really need the N95 & its battery power it fails (many times), lets hope if you do have a full battery the operating system doesn't crash cause your multi-tasking. With all the fault & a longer battery life, it would have been somewhat better, here i am using the phone, need to buy a newer higher capacity battery.
Im not happy, i complain, if i didn't then i should shut up & say nothing, but i speak out in the hope it has an effect. I tell nokia when i can, if they dont listen, hopefully others do.
Oh yea firmware 20 has quite a few bugs too, just try install a few apps, play some music, connect to the internet & multi-task, found this version sort of freezes the phone sometimes for a few seconds (i know 2/300mhz processor but still)

As I mentioned in another post I simply cannot find another phone that does all the things the N95 can do - so I gave in a tried ONE more time and amazingly the 3rd handset I got was way more solid that the first 2 - WTF!?
I am certain the slider etc will loosen off in time and it is rediculous that the quality can vary so much but as I say - in terms of features, I cant find a handset that competes...
