I mentioned this in the 'new firmware' thread, but felt that it may not get seen there.

I updated my phone last night but have since noticed that my messages just don’t send when on either 3g or dual network, they will however send if you set it to GSM only. I have not noticed this prior to the updated firmware, and in fact the only reason I did notice it was because I cannot get my configuration settings sent to my phone from the Vodafone website. The settings sent by Vodafone had always worked before, should you delete an access point or whatever but now they just don't get to my phone, I did phone them ad they sent them directly but still I have not got them.

I have had people send me texts and I will only get them if I am in a non 3g area, or manually switch to GSM only.

Try it for yourself, if you are in a 3g area and on the new firmware, send yourself a message with reports set to on and see what happens.
It may just be me!?!

Ok I think I have the answer - the timing on Vodafones part could not be worse though, In my case!

Apparently Vodafone (who I have just been on the phone to) are having problems with the 3g network, which is (I hope) causing my problems.

Yup, can confirm VF 3g network is down in Wigan/Manchester area... thought my phone was knackered till I put the SIM in other phones and there's no 3g!!! Great!

Voda in south Portsmouth had a problem a while back where only 2G would work, annoying my house was right on the 2G/3G fault line too, and they denied there was a problem, so I was stuck with 2G at home, but at work (just a mile away) I could use 3G.

Thankfully they sorted it in the end though.

I've got exactly the same problem on the N95 8GB as above. I live in the Gloucester area and can only receive texts, since debranding and upgrading, if I switch to GSM even though it shows full bars on 3G and I get 3.5G on browsing.
My MMS, Picture Messaging, is non existent now. I have contacted Vodafone twice in 24 hours to get the settings sent to me but nothing has happened. I tried the Nokia settings site for MMS but they don't have them! I don't know who, or where, else to try for them. I used to have Contract Internet before upgrading and debranding but all I have now for Access points are Vodafone Internet GPRS, Vodafone Live and Vodafone MMS.
Also does anyone know what the Access Point in Packet Data is for Vodafone?

Very strange! Yes i am in Gloucester too so hopefully it is just a network thing. I did the same as you and tried time and time again to get the settings sent but nothing ever appears. Although everything seems to work and i dont really seem to be needing the access points, i can send picture messages and surf the web on my phone with no problems. Texting seems to work fine now and they are no longer pending when the phone is in 3g mode. I am just baffled as to why the configuration settings dont get to my phone!

Thanks Jute. Suddenly I feel a lot better knowing it's not the phone. My problems on the N95 8GB started yesterday as far as I am aware and I couldn't be sure that it wasn't down to the update that I had installed, from V10 to V11, and had done a fresh reinstall of everything.
Have just tried my Vodafone sim in my N95-1 and the same problem is there. However, I have done a firmware upgrade from V12 to V20 two days ago and so couldn't be certain that it wasn't something I'd done.
Looks like we will both have to wait on Vodafone. I shall do my waiting in Cafe Rene, Gloucester!

Ian, I was in exactly the same position yesterday, hence the thread. Updated firmware on de branded phone and all of a sudden it ant the way it used to be, texts not sending or not being received at my end and I cannot get the configuration settings sent. I have tried this link about 20 or so times now to get the configuration settings sent directly to my phone:

Have you tried this way?

Thanks Jute.
I was looking for that everywhere on the Vodafone site.
Must have been having a blonde or senior moment!
Requested settings 45 mins ago and still waiting.
Not going to hold my breath on this one.
I think I might get a better Vodafone signal in the pub!

Oh! by the way, a few people have mentioned that the Search Internet and My content didn't work after upgrading. I had this problem initially after I had done a restore from PC Suite. However, today I did a reset (*#7370#) which deleted everything from the phone. I then did a format on the memory card and reloaded everything from scratch. I also used this method when I did a software upgrade on my N95 8GB after, again, doing a restore from PC Suite and finding it made a pigs ear of the phone and caused lots of problems. Not the least of which was that I was confused as to why Messanger, YouTube and Google Maps didn't work until ratkat pointed out they were Vodafone items that I'd reloaded again after changing the product code and updating. I try to learn by my mistakes!

I therefore now wholeheartedly concur with pa49, ratkat and others who say a clean reinstall is the best way forward and definitely worth the effort and time. I didn't realise just how much better and quicker the phone is until I'd done this. Bearing in mind that I have just reloaded in the past from N80 to N80ie to N95 to N95 8GB.
How much cr**!

You shouldn't need to do the firmware upgrade again. A full phone format (*#7370#) should have exactly the same effect.

It's only Settings that can cause problems on a restore. Messages, Contacts etc should all be fime.

I have been trying for almost a week now!
I have an N95 with the latest firmware (v20) and have tried time and time again to get them sent over the air via their website, also phoning customer services and they apparently sent them.

It has worked in the past but not anymore. I used to have several access points, which having the configuration settings sent via sms over the air would usually fix.

Am I the only one with this problem?

This is the section on the Vodafone site I have been using, to no avail:

Thanks.

As you know, I had the same problem. In the end I made my 6th call to Vodafone and got them to read the settings to me over the phone and then entered them manually. It was the only way in the end. MMS now works fine.

Thanks, I think I will have to go down this route if need be.
Just all so strange, I would have thought that CS would have mentioned something if there was an issue.

Sorry about the delay in sending it to you but it's been a heavy weekend so far, starting with the Hunt Ball in Cheltenham on Friday.
Am only just startingto see shapes and colours and I've got it all to do again tonight!
Let me know if you have any prob's but it is fairly straightforward.
Still can't understand the issue with the settings after the upgrade/debranding.
Good luck!

Did you restore Settings using Nokia PC Suite? If you did you should do a full phone format (*#7370#) and restore your settings manually. You should then find that your phone will be able to get the Vodafone connetion settings without having to input them manually.

In my case the events were as follows:-
I relaced the Vodafone product code on my N95 8GB with Euro 1.
Then I used NSU to change firmware from V10 to V11.
Initially I used restore. This made a total pigs ear of things (for obvious reasons).
I used *#7370# to reset and manually restored everything.
I then found that texts at first were not sending and languishing in the Oubox.
I checked my Connections and found that I had lost things like Vodafone Contract Internet, Vodafone PAYG, etc. This had been replaced by Vodafone live! and Vodafone MMS.
I made sure that these were the defaults and had success in sending texts but not MMS.
I then tried the Nokia site for settings to no avail. I contacted Vodafone twice on Wednesday for settings but they never came through. I did the same once on Thursday. Nothing. I then used, thanks to Jute, the Vodafone settings website on Thursday and Friday. Still nothing. I then rang Vodafone twice more on Friday in desperation but still no settings.
Finally on Friday I obtained the settings from Vodafone and entered them manually. Voila! They worked!
It does strike me as strange however that both Jute and myself have a similar problem, he after updating his N95-1, and that we both live in the same area.
Coincidence, or something more sinister?

Perhaps I should also mention that I had previously ported my phone number over to Vodafone about a month before and that when I contacted them they had a different number listed for my phone. Possibly this was the sim number that mine was ported to.

My N95 8GB picked up connection settings from my Vodafone SIM.
I too picked up the settings from the SIM but for some strange reason I had a problem sending texts and MMS. Texts would only send/receive if I dialled a phone number and MMS would not send at all!
The text situation seemed to resolve itself but the MMS did not work until I manually entered the settings.
I also asked Vodafone on at least 3 seperate occaissions to send the settings to me to no avail, as well as trying the settings site with the same result until this morning.
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that it is not a problem with the settings but a localized Vodafone fault as both Jute and I live in the same area and are the only ones this seems to affect.
Having said that, I am now finding difficulty in sending MMS again!!!

Hi Ian,

The phone number you'd have to enter before sending SMS is the message centre number. Most handsets pick this up automatically form your SIM, but the new Nokia phones don't seem to. Normally you only have to enter this once; if it keeps asking you then contact Vodafone on 191 and we'll help you store it permanently.

As for your picture messaging issues, there aren't any localised MMS faults at the moment so it must be something either settings or equipment based that's causing the problems. It'd be best if you could speak to Vodafone on 191 for us to check through a few things (or if possible on 08700 700 191 from a landline so we can talk you through a few things on the handset whilst we're talking.)

It could also be something to do with any firmware update or debranding on the handset. If you've changed the phone to an unbranded one, it might be that there's some kind of incompatiblity with our MMS service that's causing the issue, although this is unlikely.

Hope this helps,

edwardpeter

Nice to know that Vodafone listen to what we say.
You may well be right about the debranding and firmware upgrade causing a hitch as I had no problems prior to that. I'm happy to say that all is now well and that the N95 8GB without a doubt is the best phone I've had the pleasure to use and the signal from Vodafone is stonking where I live, which was the main reason I switched to Vodafone after 10 years with Virgin.
Now all I need is for Vodafone to tell me that they can unlock my phone so that I can use it for local calls abroad, as I travel a lot on business, and I will be a happy bunny!

dear all
I upgraded my N95-1 from firmware v12 to v20. Now I am having sip problems. it was working fine with v12. Did everything suggested in different forums to fix it but no success.
Before upgrading I did the following.
- Formated memory card
- Removed the card from phone
- Upgraded v20 through NSU
- Did not restore data or my previous settings.
Is there someone to help me with this sip issue. by luck it registers and works before loosing connection. next day it wont work with the same setting.

Well I never could get my settings sent, although it has not been an issue as everything seems to work. I am however having a replacement N95 sent out and it should be with me tomorrow, will be interesting to see if it works this time round, i.e. on a branded phone rather than one which has been de-branded! I have had quite a number of problems with this latest firmware, one I have recently noticed is that my WLAN settings never seem to be stored, I always have to re-enter my password, and my Google mail application seems to vanish for no reason!

My current N95 is being replaced because the screen emits a very annoying high pitch whine, even when the light is off, I may be fussy but I just hate making phone calls on the thing if I have that in my ear all the time!

Wow, That's bad luck!
Maybe resolved by now?
Anyway to back track a little, the debrand/update should have no effect on the stability of your phone or the apps, Unless you backup and restore your settings. Apps installed to the mem card don't help either.

Setup a new access point using these settings-

Vodafone GPRS settings (Email/Web):

Access Point (APN) address : internet (Contract)
Access Point (APN) address : pp.vodafone.co.uk(PAYG)
Username* : web
Password*: web
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Authentication: Normal
Security: Off

Email SMTP server: send.vodafone.net
Email SMTP server: smtp.vizzavi.co.uk
Alt email SMTP server: mail.vizzavi.co.uk
Alt email SMTP server: mail.vodafone.net
Alt email SMTP server: 212.183.156.229
Alt email SMTP server: 62.213.128.92
DNS Server: 212.183.137.12

Stear clear of wap unless you don't have a data plan. If you haven't got one consider getting one.
Copy the above info into a note and make sure you sync with your PC. Then you have this info available after each reset and sync! (Top Tip - Do this with your IMEI/PUK/unlockcode/GFs Bra size but make sure it's secure!)
If you loose this then go here

Thanks for the above, I have however since found out why my WLAN settings were not being stored, I was not going about it the right way and since resolved the issue.

No I have not yet resolved my phone replacement, wrote a letter which I sent on Sunday so waiting to hear back - not leaving at that though if I don't hear anything, will give them until Friday at the absolute latest.

My fath in Vodafone has been restored!
They have offered me a free N95 8gig (Ok I did ask), but better than that I am allowed to keep my original N95.

OK it has the fault with the screen but it can be sorted or kept as a spare.
