Slingplayer on N95 8Gb on Three?

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone had been able to get the 3 version of Slingplayer (X-series) running successfully on an N95 8Gb using a 3 SIM and X-series. I have this setup but the program can never connect to the slingbox. The standard slingplayer software direct from slingmedia works fine, but usage doesn't come out of the 80 hours on x-series gold

Hi,

Obviously the N95 8GB isn't out on 3 yet so the only people who would be using it are people who have bought it sim-free or from Vodafone and unlocked it.

The strangest thing is that after 3 weeks of not working, 3's slingplayer suddenly started working today without any obvious explanation....:confused:

Managed to get N95 8Gb and Xseries Gold last week. Sling not working with phone as you said. Software i downloaded requests registration details to continue. I assume this is something specific to the US where they have to pay $40 for the software to be activated- however from what i can understand 3 bypasses this by pre-installing the software on x-series devices as they have a deal with Sling, and assumably with a pre-registered software package.

I don't think there’s anything in 3's purchasing software that can spot such conflicts as the sale of N95-2 and X-series when done in store or over the phone. Certainly explain my predicament.

3 are at the moment running around trying to work out what to do with me- I’ll be pressing for a registration key which would be nicer than just preinstalled software for future purposes but i'll keep you posted how it goes. Might be prudent to get it this way like me if you're willing to stomach the customer services guys. Tragic.

I have it working fine on my 3 N95 8gb which I got at the beginning of Jan with X-Series Gold package, since then I have de-branded and updated firmware but all still working fine. Although there is a Bug in the software which sling know about on the N95 8gb it only works in widescreen mode, in portrate you lose 3/4 of the image if you go into the menu

i have the n95 8gb with 3 , used to have it on my old n95 so downloaded it and entered my details and it works fine... i sent an email to sling and this was there reply.............

Just upgraded to N95 8gb. However handset will not allow me to download slingplayer from Planet 3 It says not compatible with this handset. Have been on x series gold for ages and love the sling. Anyone got any ideas on how to get the 3 software onto the phone?

Thanks. That works but its only a 30 day free trial. After 30 days you have to pay. The version on Planet 3 is free.

I have tried to download it onto my old mobile and transfer it without success. So I am stuck. I cant believe I cant download it direct to the handset, but I cant. Get this error saying not compatible. Any other ideas? :mad:

Have a few questions regarding slingbox, N95 and X-Series Gold on Three.

1. I have manged to get the software from 3 installed on my phone using the method provided by kevandalice , but notice that the slingbox website has now validated the software for n95 8gb. Has anyone moved to this and noticed any differences.

2. Does anyone no what slingbox hardware is provided from Three on there current offer.

3. Do i need to have a PC switched on in my house to use it. Or does the slingbox just plug right into your router an feed the signal direct via that.

4. Is it locked to your phone or can you download software to your laptop and use it.

5. Does it work over Just the 3 network, or can you use the wireless conection.

6. Would the X-Series Gold package stop me getting data charges for using nokia maps.

Sorry for all the questions, just got the phone yesterday and noticed the X-Series Gold add on pack today.

1) I don't have a n95 but the slingmedia version is always better. The 3 version is old
2) It's a slingbox classic. Expansys are currently selling them for £60 if you want to not tie yourself into a contract just for x-series
3) No, but your router and slingbox will have to be constantly on
4) The slingmedia $20 version is locked to your phone, the laptop software is free and available from their website or the CD in the box
5) The slingmedia version will work over wifi, I'm not sure about the three version
6) X-series stops you getting data charges for anything off your phone. If you use the slingmedia version, are very careful about data usage and buy your own slingbox you can get away with x-series silver.

ok guys i may have solved your problems.

I still had the N73 slingplayer application 1.01 & I installed on the N95 8GB with no problems. Then slingplayer advised there is a newer version for the N95 slingplayer 1.56 so i upgraded to that, without any installation problems.

I accessed my slingbox perfectly for the N95 8GB Generic firmware on 3 X-series.

Now if anyone would like the N73 slingplayer application I would be happy to post a direct download link off my server here if that wont break any forum rules..
