Hey guys,
has anyone else found the n95's wifi seriously lacking? im trying to connect my n95 to my home wifi (which 3 computers run flawlessly on) and my n95 can barely load up a webpage via this connection! it is encrypted(WEP), the wifi that is, (we have wireless sky broadband, if that makes any difference). im running FW version 12.0.0.13 on the phone
ive found a program that can connect to skype through the phone (software called 'fring') and would love to be able to run it thru my phone via home wifi, instead of shouting at my comp like a goon! however, the program just sit's for ages when i try and log on.
as ive had the problems loading webpages via wifi, i cant be certain but i dont think its the softwares fault ('fring' that is), i think its the n95 being crap with the wifi
to run it over the cellular network isnt worth it as for some reason Orange UK are still being massive tight over mobile internet. anyway, i digress from my point...
has anyone been able to run a VoIP via their n95 via an WEP wifi connection? or have other people had problems??
cheers, danny reynolds

I use Fring quite often via my WiFi at home and have had very few problems with it.
Always have a WiFi connection, and can always use others' if they're non-encrypted to make free calls too (with permission obviously).
To be honest I think that the WiFi reception is reasonably good..
Perhaps you've got a software/encryption issue of some sort? I vaguely remember having some issues with my old Netgear router (which subsequently died) and the N95.
Sorry I can't offer much in the way of technical advice, but I can say that the N95 does work fine using Fring for me!
I'm sure that someone else can offer more help than this...
Good luck.

hi there,
i actually found a solution just after posting this thread...
theres an option i found within the phone to turn off a 'power saving' option for the wifi, which was on by default. cant tell you how much better my wifi is now!
cheers though!

Turning off the power saving option does help, but obviously it comes at a cost to the power life (understandably). Not sure how much though, as I'm not a big wifi user myself. But in any case, the N95's wifi antenna isn't as powerful as ones you find in laptops, so the lack of range is to be expected.
Orange data bundles aren't great, but I find their £5 a month 'unlimited' (1GB fair usage) off-peak bundle to be pretty good, as I'm always on a computer at work during peak hours anyway. And so far I haven't found anything to be blocked - can use MSN and VoIP, download files, and stream videos all via 3G.

Where do you find these settings for power option in a debranded N95?

Menu
Tools
Settings
Connection
Wireless LAN
Options (left soft key)
Advanced Settings (Warning comes up. Click "Yes")
Power Saving is the last option on the list :D

Disable 'Automatic Configuration' to bring up the rest of the options.

Hi,
you won't believe it, but now I can't seem to make outgoing calls with my Fring account from the N95. All connections to WiFi are fine (can surf etc and even make a successful test call on the Fring network) however I tried calling my home number to test it properly and... nothing - rings on the handset but certainly not the landline!
It all used to work fine before I upgraded firmware - have since been experiencing problems with 3G and making 'standard' calls too! Vodafone advised to switch off my 3G for a while... no help.
Aaaagh!
Any ideas?
What did you do to fix your problem dannyr?
