Hi all,

Been looking online for some apps for my N95 8GB but nothing I've tried seems to work, and all the websites seem quite outdated.

Quite fancy a free sms smiley package and a full screen caller ID picture.

Any ideas anyone?

I don't want to pay Nokia £7 for sms smileys! They're taking the p*ss trying to charge for a few smileys for a phone that costs £500 to buy! Especially as Sony Ericsson phones all have it on there as standard (as should Nokia phones).

I think it's a bit harsh to say they are taking the p**s for not putting smileys in. They're not exactly a critical feature are they?

Anyway I thought we all stopped using them in texts about 7 years ago...

Actually I never said they're taking the p*ss for not putting them in, I said they're taking the p*ss trying to charge £7 for them.
The phone is £500, I shouldn't be paying extra for smileys that should be there anyway.

I still use smileys, and as far as I'm aware they're used just as much now as they were before, if not more. They're a pretty integral thing to text messages, forums and messenger services... I mean look to the right of your dialogue box when you're typing... what do you see?! Exactly.

Just because you don't use them, doesn't mean everybody doesn't.

I'm sure that many people use them, and as far as I'm concerned, they should be on the phone as standard, or a free download at the least.

If they're going to be tight fisted then a charge of one or two quid would be more acceptable, but £7 is dire.

Yup, cos making money off people daft enough to pay for smileys is a bad thing...

Well thats not really the point is it... it should be free. So those of us not daft enough to pay out for them are still able to have smileys.

But why should it? It's not a critical feature, so make people pay!

Anyway, don't know if this will satisfy your burning need for smiley faces on your text messages, but it may work and should be within your budget.

You need to make sure anything you download is for version 3 of the Symbian Series 60 OS (S60v3). A lot are for version 2 (S60v2), which won't usually work.

You can put text smileys in text messages by pressing the '1' key two or three times and then the '*' key to cycle through the different ones available.

I have a strong dislike for graphical smileys. Text is good!

S60v1 and S60v2 programs will never work - the operating system in those phones is significantly different and incompatible.

I don't see that a camera or video camera or mp3 player is a "critical" function either, essentially the only "critical" function for a phone is for it to make a call... essentially anything else after that is an extra.

I want my phone to have a camera, its not critical, but I want it, and these days I'd not expect to pay extra to get one "added on" to my N95. Same as I'd like to have smileys. Not sure how thats become a point of contention, I'd like them, and in this day and age they should just be on there as standard, just as they are on Sony Ericssons. (As well as Messenger software and forums. - Why do I feel as if I've just asked for something really disagreeable here?!)

My other half uses them quite a lot and they're good for making the tone of a text message more obvious. But now they're simply displayed as a group of non-sensical characters, aside from the obvious :) and :( ones, that is.

Anyway, when did this become a debate about their use? I happen to like them and wouldn't expect to pay £7 for something that can be found as standard on far less expensive (and older) phones.

Right, so you hang out on the N95 part of a 3G forum, but you'd rather have a phone without 3G capability, instead of the N95...?!?!
Anyway, thats rather off topic, I wasn't asking for phone opinions, I've already decided that the iPhone isn't for me, being the huge disappointment that it was, and the N95 8GB has so far been an excellent phone.

It has a few niggles, one of which for me is the lack of smileys... hence the topic.

Does the iPhone even have smileys? I didn't think it did, though admittedly I've not used one for more than a minute. I did find someone asking 'What are the chances of us ever seeing smileys on the iPhone?' though, so I guess it doesn't.

>:( looks like a cross smiley (oxymoron?) to me!

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, however I'll ask it all the same and if it's in the wrong place I appologise now.

How do I back up the spiderman-3 movie and the activation key, so I can update the firmware and still be able to load and watch this film afterwards? Any help is greatly appreciated.
