I'm lost...?
The Nokia download section you link to is just the page to download the NSU software...
The Symbian-Freak article is an old (May 2007) article about the v11 N95-1 firmware update.
Confused:confused:

Cheers for that biggzy... you're right. The update 11.0.0.26 is showing as available on NSU on my Euro-1 N95 8GB... At last a new firmware! ;-) I'll see what the changes appear to be and post later. *** Firmware updated: One change I was hoping for was the annoying 'switch to landscape bug' in screen saver mode... this unfortunately still happens.

First you need the updater on ya PC
Go to http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate
Click N95 or N95 8GB and download "NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe"
Now install it
Connect your N95 to PC via your supplied cable
Must be charged and in GENERAL PROFILE
Follow instructions to update to v11.0.026
Good luck

I've noticed a drastic improvement in the speed of installations. On v10 it was painfully slow, perhaps slower than the original n95...
It seems a little quicker overall too.

My N95 8Gb was Vodafone branded originally.
I used Backup to save the entire contents of the phone and Mass Memory.
Changed the product code to Euro 1 = 0549487
Then using latest N series PC Suite 2.0
http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/nseriespcsuite
which comes with Nokia Software Updater 1.4.14, I downloaded the V11 software with no problem.
In an ideal world, and me not being a lazy toad, I would have loaded the phone piece by piece. However I chose to do a full restore, being a thicky, and my phone crashed and displayed "Return to Retailer."
Undaunted by my stupidity, I turned the phone off and then by holding down the green Call key + * key + 3 key I restarted the phone successfully and then released the keys.
By a process of elimination I found that on a full Restore, from Backup, that it was the Settings that was causing the problem. I know you're saying that of course you shouldn't have loaded the Settings as they are Vodafone settings but it was 3 am and I'm not very bright!
I therefore did a full Restore with the Settings box unchecked and it worked fine with all my photo's, music, messages, contacts restored.
Changes so far that I have noticed from Vodafone V10 to Euro1 V11 are:-
* Menu icons are animated
* Internet calling (VoIP). Have successfully installed and used Gizmo.
* A new folder in Applications called "Office" (Wish I could move it, and Media to the Root Menu.)
* Still can't get Messanger to work (only available in Taiwan and China)
So far these are the only differences I've noticed. However I am just glad to get away from the crippled Vodafone software.
Has anyone got a Changelog for V11?

Just attempted to do a Backup and I get a message saying:-
"The connected Nokia device does not have multimedia message support installed. Multimedia messages cannot be backed up. View Help to find instructions on how to install the support plug-in."
Have viewed Help but can find nothing on this. Never had the problem on V10.
Any ideas?

I'm using N series PC suite 2.0. All I get when I click on the "?" is the Help prog. which is no help on this. Are you using a different suite or, as I suspect, I'm terminally thick?

I am on Vodafone contract. Does upgrading FirmWare to this Euro1 affect anything?
Thought it best to check before going ahead with it!

haha! Should have guessed really!
Though was wondering more if it affected my contract with Vodafone, seeing as it is said that it unlocks VOIP which is barred in the Vodafone contract

Even if it's on generic firmware, you don't have to use VOIP but I haven't heard anyone having problems using it. They just disable it to protect their own interest.
The good thing about changing product code is that you always get the latest firmware first. Branded versions can take months or even years sometimes...

The vodafone version was rubbish anyway, you can get the proper S60V3 that works with A-GPS by visiting www.googlemaps.com with the S60 browser.
Not sure it is will get rid of your dead icon though*, that is caused by restoring a Vodafone backup to an unbranded firmware.
*(as the Vodafone version of google maps is a java application and the new version is a proper s60 app)

Thanks. Just went to www.google.com/gmm and downloaded it direct. Seems strange that it failed to work after the V11 installation. I also don't know why they bother to put Messanger on a Euro 1 phone as it keeps saying "only available in Taiwan and mainland China."

Can you hear the pennies dropping with me?
By being a lazy so-and-so and using restore from my Vodafone backup I didn't realise that Google maps and Messanger were part and parcel of the Vodafone firmware and was pressing select, like the demented idiot that I am, trying to get them to work. I wonder if there are any other applications like this?
Looks like I shall have to do a re-install and reload piecemeal.
Is there a simple way of doing this?

If you don't have any applications installed on the memory card, it is just a case of syncing your contacts to a PC, doing a *#7370# reset and then reinstalling everything.
If you have apps installed on the mass memory I would remove them first or format the Mass Memory.
If you do format the mass memory you will need to re-download the UK maps using Map Loader.
Either way, you will lose Spiderman 3 key if you haven't already.

You're right about Spiderman. I lost the activation key on the upgrade. Bottom! I hadn't watched it either.

I installed the update last night. All seems to be working well, except for I have a few questions!
I used the Euro1 prod code as supplied by Ian Ross above, but forgot to note down the Vodafone prod code. Does anybody have this?
Ratkat - I haven't installed any extra applications since receiving my phone. Am I right in thinking that the reset will keep all the standard applications? It may seem obvious, but saying reinstalling everything makes me think EVERYTHING, not just everything extra I might have installed!
Is there anyway to do private messaging on this forum?
Cheers
Oh, and I hadn't watched Spiderman either - but I heard it was crap!

The Vodafone product code can be found on the label under the battery.
You only need to reinstall any apps you have added, the standard ones will be fine.

You're the 2nd person to mention this. Uridium on All About Symbian reported the same problem yesterday. I don't know what product code he was using. My Multimedia key is working fine since the product code change to Euro 1 (0549487) and the upgrade to V11. Perhaps it's peculiar to the product code you used.
The only thing I can suggest is changing the product code to Euro 1 and reinstalling V11.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I used the same product code as you Euro 1 (0549487) If I try again will it let me up date a second time even though I already have V11 loaded?

Yes, the NSU should give you the option of reinstalling your current firmware (ie V.11). I've just checked mine and it says I can reinstall the current version if I need to so should be the same for you.

It's asking for a lock code, where do I find this?

I think these are all standard features, not new in V11? I don't have an N95 8GB, but all of these have been on my N95-1 long before the N95 8GB ever came out (although animated icons are not on by default).

I'm with you on this one! Hadn't noticed they weren't working until you said this!
Am not that bothered about the youtube abd ebay apps, but the messenger one I'm keen to get working again.
Has anyone else had the same problems, and if so, how have you overcome them?

If you have a Vodafone N95 8GB its best to back up the contents of the memory card and then format it before you do the Firmware Upgrade. It seems like these apps have part on the phone and part on the mem card so after you upgrade the firmware the apps try and reinstall from the mem card but the bits on the phone have been wiped so they don't work.
Try and download and reinstall them from the Nokia website.

Think I would have done the same had I known! Although I had a problem with texting which the upgrade has resolved, so it's swings and rounbdabouts for me!
