Try it only using the first four characters of the postcode. I've had issues with using the whole postcode.

Well someone has clearly tried to help you, but you've only actually explained your problem on your last post. We can't help you unless you help us by clearly explaining your issue.
Anyways, there's god knows how many threads on this so check the search function first. If your answers not there. have you got the maps downloaded to your memory card? Have you upgraded maps to the latest version? Define exactly your problem; are you trying to use turn by turn navigation or do you just want to track you as you nove.

Nah, it's the same on every forum on the net; if you post a question that vague and that basic, you 're unlikely to get a response. Your best bet for using the sat nav is to turn on Maps, wait for the little cross icon in the bottom right corner to change to semi circles, click on Options on the bottom left and work it out from there; it's fairly intuitive. Enjoy!

I would just like to say mine works absolutly fine. I set up the 3 day free trial of turn by turn nav, which came with my 8gb, set in a destination, sat it next to my tom tom in the windscreen of the lorry and was pleasently surprised just how accurate it was. Im not saying we can all throw our tom toms away, but for the occasional use, or when you are walking or you get a bit stuck and you have left tom at home, the phone works more than well enough.

When I upgrade my firmware I always format my memory card as well because your old settings from your memory card such as maps data and other settings may conflict with your new upgraded firmware. e.g. it is looking for certain things on you phones memory but no longer exist. I would advice you to back up what you need from your memory card by using mass storage mode. Format the memory card and download the map using maploader.
thanks ez2remember,
But i also formatted my memory card after i upgraded the firmware. the maps work fine, but the gps doesn't seem to start up. it says it searching and nothing happens.. also a MSG pops up saying "network usage disabled. you can enable it from application settings". i believe this is only if you want to logged on to the internet??? i have tried a number of settings and nothing happens..
Thanks

Well GPS works with or without connection. With connection though using AGPS its a lot faster. I would advise to keep this on since it really doesn't use much data. At most a couple of kb...
Try the following tools > general > positioning methods >
Assisted gps, integrated gps & network based is all ticked
bluetooth gps is unticked
Also when your inside maps software
options > settings > network > change to appropriate default access point
& use network > when needed
Slide your keypad open 45 degrees in clear view of sky.
Stay still for at least 10 minutes or leave the phone on a table hee hee.
While doing this check for satellites it's inside the options.
Thanks ez2,
My settings in tools were correct, but i have changed my default acess point to when needed...
Hmmmm i guess i've not been able to logon to the GPS because i am always on the move... i was walking around the streets during the week with my keypad showing pointing to the sky. people must of thought i was crazy :)
I will give it a try when i am stationary for bit outside. the problem is it so cold this time of year lol..

First fix always take long but once established following fixes should be a lot quicker. Yes moving about definitely doesn't help especially for your first fix. You can check if you have a knackered gps with view satellite info. It should give you some indication whats going on.
thanks for that ez2,
I will test it out tomorrow... :)

when will the next tomtom be available, will it accomadate the n95 built in gps and what about sitting the phone on the dashboard of the car and waiting as even this didnt seem to get me a lock on, i looked at satelite info, it had 4 satelites but no lock on. might just get an external gps reciever
oh yeah is there a bluetooth gps reciever that doesnt need to be switched on manually, so i can hardwire it to the back of my cigarette lighter and place the reciever at the front of the windscreen and it will automatically turn on and be powered when ignition on my car is used.
