Hi
Just out of interest really.
Did you buy one of these? What do you think of it?

"totally locked" I don't think so, plenty of information out there about how to downgrade the firmware to 1.1.1 and unlock, I've been running mine on T-Mobile for a month or so now and expect to update it to 1.1.2 in the next day or so. I find my iPhone great, I also have an N95 and I still prefer the iPhone, better screen and infinately better battery life.

Isn't the battery fixed? What happens if it fails 13 months into an 18 month contract?

The Apple Store can replace the battery, you can also do it yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron I believe. To be honest, I've never kept a phone beyond 10 months or so, they're gadgets and I like having new toys so when the battery on mine goes I'd just replace it.

I forgot, I'm old fashioned. I see a phone as part of my working business life and if it does what I want it to do and is reliable I see no need to replace it.
I've still got a Nokia 6210i which has a Roaming SIM fitted which I use abroad and when I'm out with my rambling group. Holds onto a signal when everything else gives up and will happily stay on standby for a fortnight. :)

Ah, knew this would be a hot topic.
Would never buy one, what do you do if you fail the credit check, do you return it for a refund?
As regards the comment about O2 being the worst network, for data I would agree but for voice it does what it says on site/card and so works well enough for me.
How do those roaming cards work Dave, do they just log onto any available network or use a specific one or does it just come up with the issuer's name so you are never sure?

Mine worked on all the Networks in Switzerland and Italy on a recent trip. I get the name of the network with my issuer's name underneath.
I only use it for Voice and SMS and as it is a Jersey Telecom number it is standard rate to call from BT.
I keep it in the car and take it on treks in the UK as it picks up all 4 GSM networks. Useful in an emergency

What mobile doesnt need activation to work???? They all have to have the sim activated? What good is a phone with an unregistered sim in it!

Ah that explains why your phone doesn't go out of signal Dave. :D
What issuer is it anyway, would be interested in looking at the prices in case I go travelling (though O2's aren't that bad now)

My issuer is United Mobile - Not that cheap now since the deals for Europe. I think there may be some which are cheaper. But as most calls are incoming, not having to pay for them makes it worthwhile
was a waste of time this launch....if someone wants an iphone they wil come in and buy it
if a customer comes in and is due for an upgrade they will be expecting their phone to be free so what chance of persuading them on gettin an iphone
personally it is a gimmick i got bored of on my first evening of use
