As far as I am aware Nimbuzz sets up a local call (0121, 0208 etc) GSM call so its included in your allowance or charged at normal rates if you have no minutes left.
Can I ask for what purpose you are thinking of using Nimbuzz for? The reason I ask is far better services IMO exist for cheap roaming or cheap international calling from the UK etc. For example www.truphone.com and www.fring.com. Truphone is very reliable and uses your 3g connection (or wifi) to set up the call. Fring you can set up Skype to use Skypeout and use it via Wifi or 3g and also use virtually any SIP provider, the downfall is it isnt as reliable as Truphone and Skype can be very flaky, SIP however seems to be OK. Fring is in beta and the developers are aware of the quality issues and are working on them so hopefully it will get better
Nimbuzz if your abroad isnt going to make your international calls any cheaper unless you use a local SIM.

One thing to be wary of is Truphone allocate you an incoming mobile number starting 07 this number isnt included in most mobile operators minutes and is charged outside at approx 25p per minute. You can however call Truphone to Truphone for free and SIP to Truphone for free as well. BT only charge normal mobile rates to call a Truphone number, its just the mobile networks throwing their toys out the pram!!!!

Nimbuzz isnt the way forward then as I dont think it provides true VOIP calling, its works in a similar way to 'threes Skype service' ie sets up a GSM call to the network. Correct me if I am wrong but you cannot set up your own SIP account using Nimbuzz either.
Have you looked at Truphone? You can call Truphone from any SIP phone by dialling the truphone number 07898989898@truphone.com. The voice quality even via '3g' is fantastic, plus until 31st December you get unlimited free calls to many countries without any credit.

I agree with you that Fring currently is a waste of space although SIP via Voxalot via Fring seems to work a lot better than when using Sipgate. When I used Sipgate incoming calls would go to voicemail even when logged in via Fring...most annoying...Voxalot has yet to let me down though..

Do you know of any other VOIP apps for Symbian devices? I have tried
Barablue which was rubbish, yeigo which works but doesnt seem to have the function of incoming calls via a direct number or via a SIP phone and a few others which arent any good.

All these call-back applications are a waste of time IMO such as Nimbuzz.

Yes,no doubt, you just confirmed my suspicion about Nimbuzz and other similar clients. I found that Fring concept is excellent but afraid that such an application may not survive and could be blocked by networks. As it is, Fring, when working as designed to, is perfect for my sip uri needs! MSN etc is a bonus.
No other application have I found offering sip as Fring. I tried to log in with Nokia,s inbuilt sip client but not succeeded in making or receiving calls using data plan, however it is fine with wifi.
There are several reasons as to why I need sip to work and one of them being in touch with just about anybody anywhere using sip. The skype and others only allows calls to/from contacts only.

I did read that you can 'trick' the Nokia SIP settings into connecting via 3g. I am sorry but havent the link and to be honest when i read it, the instructions seemed vague but never the less people did report it worked. I havent tried it as to be honest i only really need SIP via WiFi when i am abroad in Hotels etc. If i find the link i will post it....

Nokia Sip connects to 3 but the latency makes it unusable.
I think I have found a working solution (atleat on theory) for you. I will post as soon as I can.

@wenklow,
For your sip/voip need I think any handset with win mobile OS should be fine as you will be able to install fring as well as "normal" pocket pc/phone Skype.Furthermore for SIP requirement I recommend looking for X Pro for pocket PC (no longer distributed),has up to 4 sip registration. A free alternative is SJ Phone from www.sjlabs.com
I have my own license for X Pro (2 lines) bought from Counterpath.com they also market Eyebeam softphone but not for pocket PC/phone.
I can give you my copy of x pro as one off if you PM me. I dont know if private messaging is available.
