Folks

I have bought an N95 8Gb off Ebay that is locked to Vodafone. I would like to unlock it so i can use on 3, but i have just phoned Vodafone who have told me that they will only unlock it for the original owner for £19.99. The person who sold it to me is not willing to do this. Do you guys know if this is correct policy or whether I can argue a case (or alternatively any other way of getting it unlocked?)

Thanks

I think you are up s***s creek. Voda do that to ensure that they get the maximum contract time from an owner. They don't konw whether you are just trying to unlock it for the original owner, so your best bet is to try and convince him/her to speak to Voda or you will have to wait until that handset is 12 months old.

You shouldve bought a factory unlocked model off of ebay, they are only slightly more, i got one for £460 :D then you dont have to worry about stuff like that, sell your one back on ebay and get the factory unlocked ones :)

I paid only £350 on ebay, and I was under the impression unlocking only cost £20 - which it does, except they won't do it for me only the original owner. I wonder whether this is a strict policy or whether i might get a different response if i asked again - I thought maybe someone else might have had a similar experience? Cheers

All is not lost! Fear not. I bought a Vodafone locked N95 8GB from ebay. I got it unlocked from fonefunshop.co.uk. If you go to their website

http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/vodacodes/nokian9xseries.htm

it costs £45 to unlock but the good thing is you DONT need to send it away. I received my unlock code within 24 hours via email and it worked PERFECTLY. Hope this helps!

Wow £45 is very expensive - is there no cheaper method?

Folks i may have spoken too soon - not on the unlocking front but with respect to actually using the unlocked Vodafone N95 8Gb on 3. I have an x-series enabled SIM in the phone but can't find a way to download the applications (e.g. MSN, Sling, Orb, Mobilcast, Skype etc). And the ones i can find don't install due to a certificate error

Does anyone know how to get around this? I read that perhaps rebranding the phone with 3 firmware would solve the problem but a) why are the links not even visible on planet 3 and b) is it even possible to rebrand an N95 8Gb for 3 yet?

Have I unlocked my phone only to find that i cant use it on xseries anyway?? :(
