I recently cancelled a contract with 3,quite straight forward you'd think,but no.
Phoned cust. serv. on sep 3rd asking for pac code and to give required 30 days notice.Received final bill which took me up to Oct 12th so phoned and they said cancel your direct debit and they wouuld send a new bill which I could pay by post or net.New bill came for even more money so phoned again and they said they had made a mistake there end and would send a revised bill.Arrived today and low and behold wrong again.Bill includes line rental up to 30th Oct.When I contacted them again they said yes your contract ended Oct3rd but as you didn't use your pac the account was still active.I tried so hard to explain at least two operators before this one had told me Oct3rd my conract with 3 was over. What the hell do i do now, I've never missed a bill payment but bcause of complete incompetence from 3 cust. serv. I could get a bad credit rating. P.S.
I still have cotracts with 3 on two phones but will def. change when cotracts are up.

if you asked for your PAC, and didnt use it, when the PAC expires, your contract will just carry on for another month, you need to give another 30 days notice, or get another PAC code (and use it) for the the contract to end

Your contract may of ended on the 3rd of Oct but unless you give notice of disconnection or request a PAC code and use it within the 30 days your contract will continue on a month by month basis.

When you take out a contract you agree to sign up for a minimum term of 12 / 18 or 24 months. The networks do not automatically disconnect you at the end of the min term. At the end of the min term some people then take out a upgrade contract which can include a new phone or a sim only deal with reduced line rental.

Others just give notice and may move to payg or ask for a PAC code and move to another network. Some may just give the disconnection notice then take out a new contract with a new number.

As your min term has expired when ever you want to leave all you have to do is give your 30 days notice.

I gave 3 30 days notice to cancel my contract on the 3rd sept.surely if I give notice to quit my contract it does not stay active for another 30 days.

you cant give your notice AND get a PAC code at the same time :)

Asking for your PAC code and giving notice are two different things.

Giving your notice of disconnection means that you want to terminate your contract and after 30 days after you give notice your contract ends.

Asking for your PAC code means that you are thinking of leaving your current network and moving to another network. The contract then ends when your number moves to the new network provider.

If you don't use the PAC code your current network assumes that you have changed your mind and want to continue with them and you will then continue to be billed until you either give notice or request another PAC code and use it.
