The BL-6F battery fits the old N95 classic although it's very tight. If you remove the hologram from the battery and sand down the criss-cross section on the underside of the battery cover you should get a much nicer fit. Please note it adds extra pressure to the battery cover so may damage the clips a lot quicker. I would definitely advise the mod first and also get yourself a spare battery cover.

I made a youtube video. My very first lol

I'm not up to spec on my batteries - are you saying the Nokia 8gb battery can fit into the standard N95?

Cheers

It's not worth the hassle, from what i know, the new battery is only i little bigger in capacity terms, but shows better than this in terms of performance due to the 8gb phone handling it better, with demand paging.

If you can, it would be good to see a comparison test of the new vs old in the same n95 classic. Same usage and conditions of course

Yes that's what I'm saying.

At the moment it leaves a tiny gap, maybe 1/2mm slit all the way around. With the mod it should fit a lot better. It's 1200mah vs 950mah.

Update: yeah I plan to test the battery more thoroughly. I just hope my original n95 isn't sold by then... I'm trying to get much as I can from it. I'm not so sure the 8GB is that much more efficient. I'll know more after a few days usage.

It doesn't fit right but if you do a little mod by sanding down the cross section on the underside of the battery cover and also remove the hologram or the grey tape that surrounds the battery then it should fit a lot better. It's not bad compared to having a horrible crystal case around it or leaving it bare.

You can also check out the close up quality of the n95 8GB. It works quite well with flash but not so well under indoor lighting.

Well, it ain't a beaut, Clark. But as long as it works... :)

Perhaps removing the sticker completely from the battery would help?

I'm sure if I wanted too, I could get it to fit correctly since the underside of the battery cover and battery can't be seen. Removing and sanding things down a little is no probs.

I wouldn't on my new BL-6F battery though, as they don't seem to be widely available and are expensive at the moment.

Was a good effort that, but has anyone managed to get the cover flush? And if so, how?

Well before it sold I did exactly what I described on youtube. BTW the video and pictures are before any modification.

I removed the grey tape + hologram. There is a silver metallic underlay. The phone wouldn't switch on with the battery. I discovered it was causing some kind of connection. Anyway I added a bit of tape to the bottom and sides and it was fine. I also sanded down the battery head (black area) and criss-cross section. It fits a whole lot better but still isn't perfect. Sadly my n95 classic is now sold so can't do anymore mods with it. I think a generic back housing maybe a little looser so may fit perfectly.

It still wasn't dead flush but wasn't too bad after this mod.

Thats a good business opportunity. If someone makes a custom cover for the BL-6F 1200mah battery they could make good money. I bet pople are gonna be willing to spend £10-20 for a piece of plastic that costs 5p to manufacture.

When I had the n95-1, I ordered a generic back housing on eBay and it finally arrived today after 2 weeks!! It's a real shame because I have the back housing, the modified battery and now no n95-1 to try it on.

but why spend £10 or £20 for a new battery cover, you may as well spend the £20 on a spare battery than go through all of this hassle. I would think sanding down your battery would be very dangerous indeed and will have no value when you come to sell your phone.

I know that people can fit the BL-6F battery in the N95 classic by removing the stickers and filing down the inside of the battery cover but I have 2 questions about this mod.
1.Is it possible to use this "mod" without making any modifications to the battery cover and the battery itself i.e removing the stickers?
2.Is it possible to charge the BL-6F battery using the N95 classic charger without problems i.e overloading the charger or frying the phone by using a more powerful charger?

If it's possible to:
1.Install the BL-6F battery into the N95 classic without modifications sans battery cover and
2.Safely charge the BL-6F battery whilst inside the N95 classic phone

could you guys please recommend me a good, reputable online shop that sells them and possibly link to them for me.

Thanks a lot.

1. no
2. yes

1. no
2. yes

I would wait till the BL-6F battery drops down in price.

Hope this helps. ;)

Another solution is to use a generic back housing which may have a "looser" fit.

Battery covers are a fiver delivered.

Anyway I'm no longer bothered since I got the n95 8GB and happy with it.

I bought a spare "proper" battery for the N95 classic that is always with me.
It fits without any mods to the phone and will not damage it in any way.
Now both batteries added together give me more charge than the n95 8GB battery, simple.

I had this solution too but still wasn't happy. It's the simplest solution of course.

it's so funny how nokia people (both from their web-based customer support and shop assistants at Nokia shop in London) try to convince you that original N95's battery is not week. Luckily my gf got rid of N95 so i don't have to think on such problems, however i found that my N95 8gig is not that strong neither - last about 1.5-2 days. So sooner or later I ll have to consider buying either an original battery or extra-strong from ebay, or hope that n96's battery will be stronger and easy-to-fit.

The n96 battery is unlikely to be better than the n95 8GB because it uses the same 950mAH capacity (BL-5F) used in the n95 classic.
