Discuss anything about the n95 8GB here if you wish :p
Can anyone tell me what happens now when you connect the USB cable in mass storage mode?
I would like to know if the whole 8GB appears like a USB drive?
thanks!

No, in Mass Storage, the flash memory comes up like a memory card.
In fact, as far as the phone is concerned, it thinks there is a 8gb card inserted.

not really a huge problem, easily fixed by next firmware update
when your viewing all your Contacts, if you hit the right button and go to Groups, you wont see the word "Groups" it stays on "Contacts"
the old N95 used to display "Groups"
thoughts?

Does it actually go onto groups though because mine does. The heading says contacts but you're actually in groups.

Now you've got all this RAM, you just need some apps to show off some funky multitasking ability.

dont all these Apps really slow the phone down mate?
i have that full screen caller thing back on and its working great now!
cant think of what other "apps" i need really
maybe a currency convertor, a good one! lol
have put some MP3`s on me new handset and i think the volume is much better, but still now way in the same league for Audio Quality as my N91 8GB
i would really like to try CO-Pilot using internal GPS, i have TOM TOM unit, which is brilliant for me, be nice to have EVERYTHING all in one i suppose

No mate, does not affect it at all. The N95 8gb has demand paging so it only loads things when you're actually using them. Very clever.

Is the "Full Caller Screen" an app that can work on the N95 as well? .. or is it not recommended due to its lack of RAM :(

my nice shiny new Nokia N95 8GB Restarted itself once today, hasnt done it since though.. maybe it was because my battery only had 1 bar left?
here we go yet again!
i suppose its the First Firmware, so future ones should "sort bugs etc"
Laters....
PS: still love the phone to bits, incredible bit of kit indeed :D

Grrrrr I can't get maploader to work with my n95 8GB. It works fine on my n95. I've tried the old version & the latest and both give different error messages.
maploader v1.2 error "The map data on your device is not compatible with map data available through Nokia map loader"

Make sure you have run maps on the phone first, I had trouble with my sim free one initially, had to re-install the latest map loader on a different computer to get it work, think it may remember your old N95, I would un-install anything Nokia and then start again from scratch.
The wifes vodafone one came preloaded with the UK maps on the mass memory, which was nice

I have just been playing with mine (no stop it) and it would seem that the maps, certainly the uk anyway is already installed. I set it up as instructed, got a sat lock far quicker than my original 95 and bobs your aunties live in lover. I have asked it to find several different places, which it has managed with no problems at all. I have also turned off the gprs download thingy so I dont get any unexpected large data usage bills. Gonna give it a try in the car this afternoon. Will let you know how it performs:D :D :D :D :D

How do you know if it's from Vodafone? I bought it on eBay and there is no sign of any vodafone branding...
Anyway I managed to get maploader working. I'm wondering if I will have 2x UK map now. lol

Well, I got mine yesterday from voda. Firstly I have been on orange for years. On orange I get a 3g signal upstairs.
Orange were one of the first aside 3 to have 3g down here in West Cornwall.
I took the phone upstairs thinking voda 3g coverage a little sparse around here, and holy moses got a steady 3.5g signal. I was gobsmacked !!!

I know this may be stating the obvious, but if its from vodafone i would guess it would be locked. I was led to believe that voda had the monopoly on the 8gb phone for at least a couple of weeks. Mine came from phones 4 u, but is still locked to voda. They did me a better deal than the voda shop around the corner.

Mine is unlocked so I don't know if it was originally from Voda and unlocked via a code or it's a SIM free version.
Do you have Voda branding in yours e.g. themes etc?

What is the product code ez2, then I could compare with my voda one so you would know if it is sim free or an unlocked voda

Mine only seems to have a small amount of voda branding. The silly start up screen, bits on voda live, a small voda name on the back of the phone and a couple of voda type themes. I have not found anything that does not work yet like on the previous model. The other thing is does yours have the spiderman film in it or not? Mine does and its bloody good:D :D :D :D

I'll do a quick google as well: 0549487
Update: I've just found out my code is for euro (generic?) I assume. The vodafone code is 0557135.

Thanks ratkat, that was very helpful! I've managed to get it working now. I think I'm just a little too excited over my new gadget and not thinking of clear steps to rectify problems. lol

Three things I've found with the Vodafone version are:-
1. VoIP has been removed!
2/3. I can't seem to get Y browser working on it or Speech to Go. Maybe it's just me!

There is the option of changing your firmware to a generic one, just like many did with the original n95 but probably not available yet because there are no new firmware updates yet.
Anyway my firmware is:
v 10.0.021
29/09/07
RM-320
Nokia n95 (01.01)
Y-Browser works fine for me. I don't use speech to go.

Anyone else using a Vodafone N95 8GB? Just want to see if you all have the same problem as me. When using the music player in now playing mode, the background image (ie the wallpaper) is normally the same as the theme you are using. However, if I use a non-Nokia theme, say for example ones downloaded from mobile9, the wallpaper doesnt match the theme, its completely different and I dont know where its getting it from. These same themes worked perfectly on my old N95 classic.
Be good to hear anyone else who has this issue.....?

Hi- some random thoughts going from N95-1 to N95 8gb....
Just got the n95 8gb from play.com (unlocked) for £499 - free post and took 3 days to arrive. So far very impressed with the improvements over the original N95 - in particular the inclusion of a proper covering over the screen (yay!) and generally more of a solid feel.
No slider wobble when pressing the buttons! I do notice a *very* small amount of play in the slider when in the "neutral position" i.e. when tapped towards/away from portrait/landscape modes - very minor quibble.
Also, so far I notice it seems alot more stable although I have not used it extensively yet. I think this may be due to the fact it does not have Network specific FW on it..... I also get the impression that it is more responsive... again this maybe done to non-network FW.
Battery life... still waiting to see how that goes!
Anyway, just my thoughts so far :-)
