I recently got a contract with 3 and their USB modem.
Everything is working fine except I keep getting disconnected from my Instant Messaging service (Xfire) server and disconnected from the World in Conflict Online gaming server.
I believe that this is down to my 3 modem having an aggressive firewall built into it, closing ports and connections without my consent. This also happens sometimes whilst downloading files.

Is there anyway to disable the firewall within the modem and use just the windows firewall? Or adjust the modem settings so it doesn't disconnect connections without my consent?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

I'd be very surprised if the dongle had a firewall built into it. I think the problem is the mobile network's inherently slightly unstable internet. I think you're pushing it trying to maintain connection with an online game over a mobile internet connection - it's asking for trouble!

Yes I have experienced this when using 3's mobile internet (not mobile broadband) on a mobile to download files, some times you will just get 'download failed' or 'network failure' error messages and sometimes the download will prematurely end and you end up with a incomplete file. This is definitely the network and not a reception issue as the mobile as had full signal and has been left in the same place downloading and when you try downloading again it succeeds.
