Has anyone purchased one of the new PAYG Skype phones from 3. I see its also available on contract but i dont want to take another contract out, I was thinking of buying one and putting one of my existing contract sims in it. Was wondering if anyone had tried this and does skype still work. I currently use skype a lot with x-series.

I think that as long as your using:

a, a three issue phone with skype.

b, your account has x series active on it.

you should be ok, i hope that this has been of help?

if all else fails pop into your nearest 3 store and ask!

Thanks for the reply, i presumed that would be the case, didnt want to as instore as it not often you get someone that actualy knows.what theyre talking about, everythings too sales driven these days to take advice from any kind of shop, they tell you what you want to hear to get the sale. From vIdeos iv seen the skype software is different to that of the xseries skype client. I may just buy one next week and try it out.

Dont worry if i do get one and it doesnt work i wouldnt come back and blame you :-) Im hoping to hear back from someone that actually has one and has tried it, id trust their comment on it more than I would a shops. If it doesnt work ill just run it as a payg for a few months until my next contract upgrade.

It will work,.. however you will have to continue to pay for xseries on your current account. where as if you took it on the new £12 mix and match plan skype is included. and you don't need a video pack. skypephone is the only phone available free on this plan.

though saying that there new payg rate is actually pretty good and for a tenner a month you get unltd skype and the tenner on whatever you wanna use it for?

@othnelia i would be continuing with the x-series addon as I also require it for the data not just the skype calls.

@Malkav yes the new payg rates are pretty good but I already have two contracts with three so trying to avoid carrying round a third phone. Plus the joystick on my n73 has gone a bit hit and miss so my main reason for getting the skype phone is to swap out the sim from that until its due an upgrade in march.

Does the X-Series version have chat?

The X-Series version doesn't do chat. Although you can load up fring and use Skype on that. Only problem with that is that it uses up your data allowance (but then that would be pretty tiny and it's supposedly unlimited!)

My contract sim with X-Series Gold on it works fine in the Skypephone. Obviously no Slingplayer support (and I didn't bother trying ORB).

Well after all that I ended up not ordering one as I couldnt wait the week it would take until they could deliver. I opted for a sim free 6120 classic instead so ill still be able to use skype (but not for messaging) and it will be my first HSDPA phone. Thanks for the advice even though i wont be getting one now.
