I'm on Contract and have an N95 and the Monthly £7.50 browsing pack, and have tried using MSN messenger and other programs such as Fring etc.. They connect and work fine using Wi-Fi and the Vodafone Internet GPRS connection (which I found out data used on this connection is charged EXTRA so i stopped using it). But when I try to use the programs or stream video or anything other than surf the normal net they never connect or time out.

I have turned off content control in store hoping that would help but apparently not. Kind of sucks that I'm being charged £7.50 for a measly 120MB and i cant even watch videos or use MSN etc..

Anyone else with this problem?

Vodafone Internet GPRS connection (which I found out data used on this connection is charged EXTRA so i stopped using it).

Don't know where you heard that from.

ALL data on GPRS / 3G is included, regardless of which access point you use.

I have had no trouble with blocked ports using the vodafone "internet" access point. You will certainly have problems if you use the WAP or Live access point.

There was a problem with data billing recently and customers were being charged for data which should have been included in the £7.50 bundle. One of the excuses that some customers were told was that they had used the wrong access point. This was not true, if you were told that then you need to contact customer services and get a refund.

Hmm thanks for that. I was talking to customer services and that's what they told me so I deleted the connection from my phone!

Could someone with the Internet GPRS settings please post their connection info so I can add it back?

I tried the Vodafone site to get the settings sent to me over the air but nothing appears on my phone!

Are you sure about what you said?

Read this:

http://www.smstextnews.com/2007/06/vodafone_broke_the_web_now_its_push_email.html

On Wednesday last week I called up Vodafone to add the £7.50 “Mobile Internet” bundle to my account and was looking forward to using it the next day (activates overnight) on my Nokia E61. I used the “internet” GPRS access point like I have in the past and was joyful that I no longer had to pay £2 per megabyte for Good Mobile Messaging and Roadsync or so I thought…..

I did my usual RSS feed reading that Thursday morning and read about how Vodafone had butchered the internet. Various individuals commented that you can avoid the butchering when web browsing on your phone by switching your preferences to “PC Standard” or using the “internet” access point instead of the Vodafone Live access point. I then wondered if usage of the “internet” access point was actually covered by the £7.50 bundle and today I can unhappily confirm that it isn’t because my unbilled usage for last week has finally updated and I was charged whenever I used the “internet” access point. To be fair Vodafone do state that you have to use the wap.vodafone.co.uk (Vodafone Live) access point to use the “Mobile Internet” bundle. (second paragraph under Pay Monthly customers)

:dead:

OK, this is what I know.

I have the £7.50 package.

I use the "internet" access point with the phones browser, with Opera Mini, with the Maps application, with putty and with mirggi (IRC client), with my laptop as a modem, and I do not get charged for data.

There was a problem with internet billing and people were being charged when they should not have been. This was further complicated by the vodafone customer support not knowing what was happening (or outright lying about it). That is what has happened to the person writing the above article.

Lots of customers were told the internet access was not included, this was incorrect information.

I was lied to myself, I was told I had exceeded my quota when I knew I had not and even if I had I should have been charged no more than £1 a day as I was before taking out the £7.50 package.

If you have been charged and have not been refunded then contact customer services. The refund may be described as "WAP used in the US" or similar.

Don't accept what the vodafone customer service people say, the people manning the phones don't seem to understand the packages (or didn't when I spoke to them).

Call vodafone and get them to send you the info.

Hi Shaunj66,

Sorry you aren't happy about not being able to use these services, this is about to change very shortly. The mobile internet is changing and from the weekend you should be able to download and use instant MSN messenger on your phone and do video streaming etc on there. Check out our Vodafone website at www.vodafone.co.uk for more details about Vodafone Mobile Internet.

Also with your GPRS settings, we can send you the manual set up guide if the over the air settings failed. If you were to contact us using our Vodafone online contact us form. Include FIT135 somewhere in the body of your e-mail and it will come to us here in the forum team. We can then get the settings out to you. We'll need the make and model of your phone too. Hope we can get this sorted for you very soon.

Oh really?

In what way?

Hi, I still can't use the services using the Vodafone WAP access point. And the e-mails you sent me didn't help. Basically I need the Internet Access Point (GPRS) settings so I can re-create it because I deleted it before.

I also need to be assured that data sent on the Internet Access Point (GPRS) once I get it working that is; won't be charged extra, and will be included in by £7.50 mobile Internet package.

Thanks

Hi Shaunj66,

Sorry that the original settings you had didn't work - as these settings for just for the handset itself I thought I'd try a different approach to try solve the problem. Below are the general settings for the Vodafone network that you can use to try and setup the handset yourself:

APN (Access Point Name)
Contract (Postpay) Customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk (if internet rather than GPRS then the APN is: Internet)
PayT (Prepay) Customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk

Username: wap (for GPRS) (web for internet)
Password: wap (for GPRS) (web for internet)

Proxy / IP Address: HTTP Enabled / 212.183.137.012
CSD Dial up No. +447836900808
Bearer: GPRS preferred or GPRS

Homepage Browsing (GPRS/
Internet): http://live.vodafone.com or the homepage chosen by the customer (Note: the experience or using the live homepage cannot be guaranteed on none-Vodafone live! handsets and content may not be available.)

MMS: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
SendingPort: 25
Receiving Port: 110
Linger/Timeout: 300

You can also view the information on our Datapricing (http://www.vodafone.co.uk/datapricing) page regarding your data/internet package and what happens if you exceed this package.

Hi John_ATR,

The next thing I would need to check would be some of the settings on your account.

To allow me to do this can you please use the contact page (http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Page_BOS_ContactUsContent&pageID=CU_0001) and send an email including:

Your account details
A brief description of your situation, or a link to this thread
Answer the security questions
FIT135 somewhere in the body of the email

As it happens i tried today using "contractWAP" connection and it connected, i used msn for quite some time,as pretty cool. I checked data usage and was only about 200kb over 2 hours, can you tell me is this included on my 120mb data plan or is messenger seperate? pricing confuses me

I think MSN is blocked by vodafone content control.

I had that taken off my phone and then it started working.

(they charge £1 to your ciredt card to proove you are over 18, but credit 2.50 back to your bill, bit silly becuase its a contract phone and you have to be over 18 to get the contract)

John ATR, is it definitely the Vodafone Messenger application you're using? There's a £3 per month charge for this service which allows you to send up to 1000 messages a day. As long as you've signed up to it then any data is covered by the £3 pack (still leaving you 120MB per month to use on browsing!)

Dragon2611, as for Content Control, it's really in place as some people might give their phones to other people to use (you might have a phone in your name that's actually your child's, for example.) It's important for us to ensure that people want to access these types of content on their phones and that we protect those who don't. Also it can be lifted free of charge now, but you still have to request it over the phone or in store.

Hope this helps,

John ATR, I think the best policy is for us to double check you've got the Messenger Service enabled on your Vodafone account. You can do this either by calling us on 191 from your handset or by email via the Vodafone Online Contact Form (https://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Page_Help_ContactUs&pageID=CU_0002). If contacting us by email, please include the code FIT135 in the message to ensure your query comes through to the right team. The advisor you speak to will be able to see if you've got the subscription added to your account, and if you haven't they'll be able to add it.

Hope this helps,

edwardpeter
