Guys,
I recently upgraded to the v1615 (HTC TyTn II) which supports HSDPA for data. I enabled it and believe me the net surfing speed was fantastic.
BUT, whenever the H signal was displayed - showing connected to HSDPA - I could not make or receive calls. Only when I turned off HSDPA did I manage to make calls.
Has anybody else experienced it or is it just me?

Vinsup- I think Vodafone are having some network problems with the HSDPA network, see my K850I thread in general disscussion i cant that to use the HSDPA network i do know that obviously it is only a data product and calls arent carried over it.

Not being able to make or receive calls whilst you have an active HSDPA connection seems to be an issue for many (but not all) networks around the world. With the N95, Vodafone included a note reminding you to setup your voicemail as you wouldn't be receiving any calls whilst using HSDPA!
I'm not sure if it's accurate but I've heard that it is more of a problem for those networks that predominantly use Ericsson 3G gear (like Voda UK) but that there is a fix on the way. As Voda have begun upgrading bits of London and airports to 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA, possibly this will contain the fix? In the meantime I guess you will have to switch off HSDPA and just use regular 3G if receiving calls are important. Note that it is only if the session is active there is a problem. Just being connected isn't an issue and even when active you still receive texts / voicemail notifications.

Thanks guys.
I called up Voda Tech Support and was told that this is a known issue and they told me the same thing - to turn it off for calls. There is a small problem though, everytime I switch off HSDPA or turn it on my handset needs to restart and that is a pain.

Good news. Whilst in central London, I received a call with an active HSDPA connection on my N95. Tried a few times after including making calls and they all worked perfectly. Once outside London I tried again in a standard HSDPA area and as usual the call failed so I'm assuming the network upgrade to faster 7.2 Mbps HSDPA does fix things. Unfortunately according to Voda's site this only seems to exist in bits of London and at airports currently. The question is how long will it take to upgrade the rest of the network?

I received my Vodafone v1615 (a.k.a. TyTN II) upgrade barely 10 days ago.
I am happy to report that out of curiousity, I enabled the HSDPA capability on the phone and honestly haven't looked back since.
Curiously, where I live in the Wembley area, the 3G services were pretty flakey on my old v1605 (a.k.a TyTN). So much so, that I was forced to downgrade the communications to 2.5G before it started working properly.
Both Vodafone Personal Mobile Email & making and receiving calls, seem to work perfectly while in HSDPA mode, indeed, I have left the v1615 running in HSDPA since. I get excellent call connections, even with one "connectivity" bar showing. That HAS to be good.
In any case, it knocks the socks off my previous v1605 which was unusable everytime you switched it to 3G.
So, thank you Vodafone.
Nice v1615, nice HSDPA service.
