I'm getting my number ported over this coming week and I've got a SIM only deal from Vodafone. Before signing up though I borrowed a PAYG SIM and tried it in various places to check coverage and overall I'm really impressed. However, on this PAYG No when I activated the Call Waiting, you see the second call coming in on the screen but can't answer it!

I've tried the combinations of '1' + 'send' and '2' + 'send' and also just 'send' itself and an all occasions the phone or network doesn't accept the command and the second call does not get answered. I've tried the SIM in a Nokia N73 (my main phone I'll be using after the port), my old generic unbranded Nokia 6680 and even a Nokia 6310i all with the same effect. I got a message on the 6310i saying something like 'network command not accepted'. Do VF not allow the Call Waiting feature on PAYG SIM's or do you think there's a problem with that particular SIM/PAYG No?

My phone is a lifeline for me and I often get two incoming calls at once so I'm hoping when my SIM arrives, the CW feature is working ok. If when a call comes in, on VF can you simply press 'send' to answer and place the first caller on hold or do I need to press '1' + 'send' every time? Any help appreciated!

You need to be on contract (a.k.a. Pay Monthly) to be able to use call waiting.

Cheers, that explains why it doesn't work on this PAYG SIM I've been playing around with.

Does the phone's menu options work with call waiting on VF (ie selecting 'answer call') or do you have to press the 1+Send combinations etc. If you just press send on it's own on receiving a second call, does it place the first on hold?

I just press the green answer button when there's a call waiting to answer it. The phone automatically put the current call on hold. No need to punch in any special code. You can also swap between calls.

Good, I'm glad just the send option works as thats what I currently do on Three. I read about the 1+send, 2+send options here:

Presumably Call Conferencing works well on Vodafone. How many people can call conference with you at any one time?
