i believe sling will be bringing out a new version of its symbian player. it will have full screen mode and letterbox mode also. can anyone tell me if i will be able to use it instead of the 3 branded sling player and not incurr any extra fees?

It's been out for a while but it doesn't work on my E61, it may work on your particular phone, why not give it a try.

Yes you will be able to use it fine, providing it works with your phone as you don't say what model you have.

I think the new sling version is available as a 30 day free trial. Hopefully three will bring out a (free) 3 branded version of the same player.
