Hi there

I have an N73 on '3' on an 18 month contract which will end in a few months. What options will be open to me?

I am quite happy with the N73 so I won't want to upgrade handset and sign a new contract. But likewise, I don't want to continue paying the £40 per month I am currently on. Can I get the phone unlocked and use it with other mobile operators? If so, what do I need to do?

PS On a slightly different tack. If I DID change phones, it might be to something like an iPaq (PocketPC smartphone) type device. If I did this, could I just transfer the SIM card from my N73 to the unlocked iPaq smartphone and keep the '3' X-Series Gold service I currently use.

Thanks
Nigel

Depends really, is the ipaq a 3g device?

AH, good point. No the the iPaq is Quad band GPRS/Edge etc but not 3G.

However, I found the HTC TyTN II (Kaiser/4550) PDA Phone which is 3.5G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPDA) and looks quite nice.

Well there really isnt anything stopping you if the HTC TyTN II is generic firmware (I guess it is otherwise it would be called a XDA or something silly.) The only time 3 get funny is if you persistantly roam on 2g!

Dont forget though without the certificates that 3 embed in their software it can be a challenge to set up internet / IM etc, but not impossible.

im getting the tytn 2 too, contract with 3 is up next month

thing is sim-free the phone is £400+, would make a lot more sense to just move to tmob and get it for free, still mulling over it
