A mate just changed his faulty N95 with Orange, but the phone they returned had a different main screen layout to his original Orange supplied N95.
The screen loads the icons down the left side rather than in a line across the top.
Hovering on any icon opened another menue giving much easier access to other parts of the phone.
His version I believe is 63.08? or 64.08 but his software version is older than I have on my N95.
Is it possible to upgrade to this new interface on other networks, or is it just an Orange thing? or are all N95's being shipped with the different interface?

from what I remember that sounds very like the old Orange home screen. I had a N70 and that was what used to happen.
From your description it would be the orange home screen, which is unique to orange, the home screen tended to slow the phone down and used a lot of the phones memory.
There are several threads discussing the home screen as it is disliked by a lot of people. On earlier phones it is fixed and can not be switched off, while on some phones orange gave the owner the option of switching it on or off.

HI
THanks for that information. I havent played with it, but when the guy sowed me the main screen, it looked nicer than the normal N95 screen, kind of more interactive and it listed lots of info on the main screen by hovering on an icon, such as a list of all your text messages etc.
If its the older screen, then I dont want it, But I just hated the thought of this guy having a newere version than I have!!!!!

like Pav said, it's not exactly the most popular thing in the world. It used to cause me all kinds of problems on the N70.

I can confirm that the Orange Homescreen has returned, my sisters and brother in laws N95 both had it, unlike the old days however you are now able to switch it off by going to Tools/Settings/General/Personalisation/Standby Mode.
You then have the option off Nokia Active Standby, Orange Homescreen or off.
My sisters gained 2mb of ram by turning the Orange homescreen off and using Nokia Active Standby
