The long awaited FTP client for Symbian S60 3rd edition phones is here and even better it is FREE!!!

For those who don’t know, FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer data from one computer to another over the Internet, or through a network.

FTP is the simplest and most secure way to exchange files over the Internet. Whether you know it or not, you most likely use FTP all the time.

The most common use for FTP is to download files from the Internet. Because of this, FTP is the backbone of the MP3 music craze, and vital to most online auction and game enthusiasts.

In addition, the ability to transfer files back-and-forth makes FTP essential for anyone creating a Web page, amateurs and professionals alike and therefore this is extremely good news for webmasters and administrators, I am waiting for such a soft since I sold my N90 and sold my heart to 3rd edition.

An FTP Client is software that is designed to transfer files back-and-forth between two devices over the Internet. It needs to be installed on your device and can only be used with a live connection to the Internet.

SIC FTP is a free ftp client for all Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices. Application is very simple to use but very powerful and besides the FTP functionality application also features the powerful file manager. ž

Client gives you a fast, easy, reliable way to update and maintain your website via FTP or simply upload / download files to and from public FTP servers. The user interface is intuitive to use and follows the Nokia style. You can switch between the local and the remote file system to get a fast overview on the files on both systems.

Once connected, the client can do a number of file manipulation operations such as uploading files to the server, download files from the server, rename or delete files on the server and so on.

I tried this and it works fine. I think the link takes you to the German page by default, but you can click on the English flag and stick "FTP" in the site-search box to get the english version of the page. Use the international WAP push link at the bottom of the page and you'll get a link sent throgh to you in seconds.

This is a fantastic app which works fine over local wifi as well as over a 2.5/3/3.5G connection (although try to get a non-proxy link - Vodafone Live doesn't appear to work properly for FTP). I'd been wondering if there was something like this out there.

Many thanks for the link Henklbr
