I've been searching through the various threads and have noted many references to 3's network settings being listed throughout the forum. I have found some of these, but they often appear to be specific to certain makes/models of phone. Is this the case? Are there any general settings that would work in pretty much any phone? And other than Planet 3 what other facilities can't be accessed?

I'm planning/hoping to purchase the new E-Ten X800 PDA phone and I just want to be sure a) It'll work ok on 3 (should do since it is 3.5G) and b) That I can get all the necessary settings to make it work. My primary concern would be for standard SMS and calls (obviously). I want to add on web surfing at some point (hopefully using the new 3.5G connection) for viewing e-mails via IMAP so that would have to work too. Not too bothered about MMS as it's not included on my contract, but be handy if it could.

If the network settings are dotted about through the different forums/threads, and at different dates, would it not be an idea to provide a diffinitive posting that people can go straight too? Perhaps pulling together all the info for the different handsets if required?

Anyway, any advice appreciated and actual settings details very much appreciated!!

Cheers!

Brian

I have a feeling that people have problems getting IMAP to work on 3

As far as I am aware the settings are different for each phone. I note that even the definitive source www.filesaveas.com/networks.html does not even list them.

SMS and video calling will work fine as will voice calls
MMS will work if you have the generic MMS settings

The only thing you might loose is getting onto the Planet 3 service for downloads etc.... but My3 will ALWAYS work anyway which is most importaint.

And if you have the internet add-on for £5 or above you get full access to Email or the Internet over the phone any way :)

That's great! I've also spoken to a really helpful 3 CS rep who confirmed that as long as the phone is 3G that's ok. Still wouldn't give me the settings info though. :( Looks like I'm going to go for the E-Ten Glofiish X800 then!!

Just out of interest, when you say My3 will always work is that because you can access over the internet or can you access it for free as I can at the moment?

Anyway, thanks for the responses. Here's hoping I can get the settings right on my new phone!

As long as you can get the net settings sorted on your handset then there will always be a link to my 3 or you could even type the address in manually.

My3 is always free to access and you can check your minutes over the phone on 333, on your handset and online.

To be honest all you need to do is define an access point which is three.co.uk and you should get somewhere.

Cheers, 3GsInGH, I've taken the plunge and ordered an X800, but just found out the delivery date's been put back to 23rd November :( . Still, from reviews, awards and specs I think I've made the right choice for me. Once I get it I'll put in the relevant settings and...... keep my fingers crossed! :) I will also post my findings here for anyone else considering the same.

Do you predict problems in getting hold of the net settings for this handset? Or do you think that the settings others use (on other handsets) should work ok? I would have thought that there can't be too many settings that 3 would use, regardless of handset. Or am I being naive?

The cab file I posted on modaco should do the trick. Just transfer it onto your PDA, click on it to install it then all your settings for internet and MMS should be set up.

Hi Brianvic, have you got your X800 yet? I am thinking about getting one too and using with X-Series on Three. I was wondering if you got yours working.

Thanks

TwoGun I got my X800 and I love it. I have it working on 3 Internet and Email without any setup at all. I can access Planet3 and My3, although if I try to get to some 3 content it gives me an unsupported phone message. Surfing the net works really well and I find the download speeds are really good. I don't have any speed tests to quote, but if I get any I'll post them here.

Wi-fi worked without a hitch too. Both my work and home networks are protected by using the MAC address. I just allowed the routers to accept any connection (I'm office admin), noted the phone's MAC address, entered it into the permitted list in the router and turned the permissions back on. It's also pretty fast too. I've also been out and about and hooked into a couple of public wi-fi's easily.

I think this phone is great and I have no regrets buying it. It does have its short comings, such as low memory, but I find it does everything fine as long as you don't want loads of programs running at the same time. Would I like more memory? Yeah, it would be great, but more memory at the expense of battery life? Nah, I like the fact I can go about 3 days without a charge. That's using the phone 4 or 5 times a day, using a bluetooth headset, perhaps a little wi-fi and numerous texts.

I went ahead and did it. I got the X800 and the car kit. I have to say I am really impressed. The VGA screen is amazing!:D

No problems connecting.

Happy with the battery life, same performance as Brianvic.

Got TomTom working too.

The only thing I am yet to work out is the RDS-TMC functionality. I can't find anything that can utilise this. Anyone know of anything that can handle TMC signal?
