The Competition Commission is expected to weigh in on the mobile call termination rates dispute between the operators and Ofcom to determine the levels they should be paying.
The Competition Commission is expected to intervene in the 'calculation of the appropriate price controls' at 'the turn of the year'.
A spokesman said: 'Given that the question of price control on call termination kicked off with us, it was always a possibility it would be referred. We would be looking at the calculation of the level of appropriate price controls, but the separate question of market power is not necessarily something that will come to us.'
In April, Ofcom introduced a charge control, which limits the rates charged by the networks for terminating calls on 2G and 3G networks.
