Hi there
I have been with vodafone for about 3 weeks & when I asked for an unlock code for the N95 they gave me (telling them I had a pay as you go SIM I wished to use) They told me that this would void the Nokia warranty - can anyone tell me are they telling me porkies ???????:devious:

it wont void nokias warranty, but it will void your warranty with vodafone, so if you were to send it away for repair or anything like that through us, it would be returned unrepaired

well that sucks
I was on orange for many years & had 5 mobiles (3 of which were Nokia's) unlocked and the were still under warranty with Orange.
With the poor customer service I have received in the few short weeks I have been with Vodafone I am really regretting switching. It is a business account & three of the 4 mobiles have been fault - one of which had to be replaced 3 times. Getting through to customer services is a complete nightmare & very costly if you have to call from a landline & then to be told that you wont replace a faulty handset over the weekend as your couriers wont deliver at weekends is unbelievable - you should ask orange who they use as I reported a faulty handset to them at 4pm on a saturday & had a replacement by 10am on Sunday
Once you do get through no-one there seems to know what they are doing.
I Iam EXCEEDING unlikely to be renewing my contract with vodafone

You are being lied to.
If you ask Vodafone for an unlock code they should supply it by letter. If that letter tries to con you that your warranty is voided you should send a copy to both OFCOM and the DTi.
As Vodafone supply the code, it can't even be considered to be an unauthorised modification. And I'm pretty sure that, legally, the supplier has to show that weven an unauthorised mod could have lead to any failure you are trying to claim for under warranty.
So if you put a non nokia battery in and it blows the main board you may not be able to claim under warranty. But if your slider got too wobbly you would.
To save yourself the trouble, you could just use a Nokia Service Centre rather than a Vodafone shop - repairs will be quicker anyway. An NSC will not care if the phone is locked or not. All O2 phones are supplied unlocked and often early supplies of new phones from Vodafone come unlocked too.
To get your own back on Voda for being conned, next time you phone, try telling them that the phone is over 12 months old and they'll give you the code for free.

Hi NiftyC,
I've checked this with Vodafone's network code unlocking department today for further confirmation. An NUC supplied by Vodafone wouldn't affect the warranty with Vodafone or Nokia. An unlocking code obtained from an alternative source that damages the software (there are many third party unlocking processes out there and also on the internet) will void the warranty.
If you'd still like an unlocking code then we do have a team who pick up internet feedback. If you wanted to get in touch it's possible to go to the following email contact form (http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp;wrpsessionid=LQvSHM8YTh2L7YHy4D3vpfMj7Gms4VvyC WF12Y82GdR3qQy5wy12!1785164530?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Page_BOS_ContactUsContent&pageID=PCU_0001). You might want to include a link to this thread in your email. If you leave the short code FIT135 in the body of your email this will route you through to our online feeback team who'd be able to provide an official response and also look towards helping out and providing you with your unlocking code (for this we'd need the make and model of handset and also the IMEI number, found by entering * # 0 6 # into the handset). They could also investigate what you were previously told internally.
I hope this helps
