Guys,

I currently have the Add Internet 30 option.

I can only seem to browse the web, use googlemail and googlemaps.

To use any other applications i.e. OFFICIAL windows live messenger for mobile, agile messenger, trillian im for mobile, or any other mobile application, i seem to get errors when trying to connect.

Can someone confirm that getting the X-Series will essentially allow me complete access to the internet from my handset?

Essentially, i want to remote control my PC at home from my mobile, or even access an FTP site.

At the moment the internet i have from '3UK' only seems to work with web browsing and the applications above.

Can someone clarify if there IS a way to get 'full' open access to the net on a mobile on the 3UK network?

Thanks.

X-Series Gold should give you totally open internet access.
Dependent on your handset - 3 even provide you with the ORB client on the phone and this doesn;t count towards any data usage etc.

There is a similar thread which Stezos has replied to here:

Am I correct in thinking that Silver or Gold "X-Series" open up different ports ?

I am asking because for some reason when I go to add a Nokia E61 to Mix & Match 300, all I get offered is "Internet Unlimited" there is no option of Silver or Gold at all.

Is it better not to add "Internet Unlimited" at the time and wait until after the contract starts ?
Can you do this ?

This is what I would have done prior to the new Mix & Match tariffs.

PS
Dammit, now the E61 Tom Tom offer has disappeared from the Threestore website

Your only option is Internet unlimited because three dont class the e61 as an x-series phone, thats why silver and gold are not shown as addons. Its best to take out the contract then add internet later. That way you can phone three and say your using you sim in an x-series compatable phone, or say youll be swapping it between your new e61 and an n73 so you need silver or gold so that you can use skype, sling, orb etc when its in the n73. BTW all these things will work on the e61 even though three say they wont, I use skype on my e61 daily with x-series silver, my other phone has broadband light addon.

That's just what I had in mind, before "Mix & Match".
ie subscribe to "X-Series Silver" after the contract has started to avoid the 6 month minimum term.

[Nostalgia mode on]
It's nice to see Three's attitude on using your sim card in another phone (3G obviously) is closer these days to what it was when HW owned Orange.

Ah, the good old days, before Orange killed off Wildfire
Now if only Three could get Wildfire as an option

That's good to know, I was holding out in the hope that Three would carry the e61i.

FWIW
The latest E61i from Expansys costs £280, which works out at £15.50 a month, so I may just go for the e61 now, it's still a lot of phone for the money and you get calls included :)

Tom Tom offer aside, I could go for the e61 now, and get either a PAYG or sim free 6120 or e65 later.

How robust is the navigation pointer on the e61 ?
Any good/bad points about the e61 ?

Mine did seem to play up a bit the first month i had it, when pulling down it didnt click like it did when i first got it, this only happent a couple of times and its been alright ever since. I like it better than the pointer on my n73 but its not as good as the one on my n80..... id class it as above average.

Ive only used nokia s60 phones for the last few years, so opperating system wise its no worse than any of my previous phones. TomTom works well. The only downside for some is that the default email application doesnt display html email, this doesnt bother me though as most of my emails are plain text as I cant stand html email. And on the rare occasion I do receive a html email all the appropriate html/image files are included as attachments so you can always open it in the browser with one click.

The only downside Is that it doesnt have a camera, again for me this is no big deal as Iv always got one of my other camera phones with me. I mainly use my e61 for skype calls and emails. For emailing the keyboard is excellent. Once I got used to it I can now type faster on it than with a regular phone and T9, in fact Id go as far as to say that a qwerty keyboard would be a big part of deciding my next phone, I would hate to have to go back to a regular keypad.
