Yep.. you can't enter into any contract by law under the age of 18. Seems pretty silly, as you can work full-time from the age of 16 (although they're trying to change that).

I thought with mobile phone contracts it was also to do with credit, since under 18s can't be held liable for any credit they default on.

There is also a credit component, yes. It seems to me that it would make more sense if these were equal to the earliest school leaving age, but I guess they will be if plans to change that to 18 go ahead.

Just a suggestion.
I had the same problem with my daughter when she was 17, she wanted to go contract on T Mobile like I was but she was told she was too young. they did suggest though, as I was already on contract, just take out a second contract in line with the one I already had. She now has a contract phone, the money is taken out of my account along with mine and she pays me cash each month. This works fine with us.

Only problem with that, LXMANAGER, is I do that already. I'm a student and I get paid cash in hand from my part time job so it makes things easier to give my mam the cash and let the monthly bills come out of her account. Nevermind eh :)
Oh, and my dad has just signed up for a contract with orange to get the N95. Should he be weary of faulty handsets like the originals from orange or have things improved now?
