As the title states, how many of you guys are going to take a hit and get yourselves the 8gb model? Most of you I expect are tied into long term expensive contracts, but are you going to buy one sim free, or take another contract, or are you just going to let this one pass?

I'm currently on a 18 month contract with T-Mobile since April.
I'm so confused by the 8GB version...
1) Do I sell my n95 and buy a n95 8GB off eBay or similar?
2) Do I sign another long 18 month contract with 3 this time and possibly downgrade my T-Mobile contract so I take a big hit?
3) Do I wait for a true successor of the n95, n96 or whatever it will be called?
I'll most likely choose option 3.
The n95 is great but imagine what the succesor will be like. My wishlist for the successor:
* A larger true widescreen with high resolution of 640x320+ or similar. Almost fill the entire slider with the screen. Get rid of the buttons on the slider...
* TV-Out with at least 1024x768 display. Not only for videos.
* 7mpx+ camera
* 128MB+ ram
* Maybe a slide out qwerty keyboard/numpad combination? Slide vertical and you get keyboard and slide horizontal you get a numpad which is part of the keyboard. (assuming you're viewing the phone from landscape mode). No slide out for the multimedia playback buttons...
That's all I can think of for now. :)

I bought mine sim free when it was released and dont fancy spending that much money again on a phone. I'll wait a few months

I won't be upgrading to the N95 8GB - I only recently got my original N95 on an 18-month contract and, although the 8GB is better, it's not better enough to be worth the price. I'd pay £100 to upgrade, if it were possible to do such a thing, but it's not.
I'm not sure about having no buttons on the slider section - where would they go? If the slider moved even further up, the phone would be very long when open.

We lose the D-Pad + buttons and go iTouch ;)
That or slap it on top of the keypad. Since there is no longer any multimedia playback buttons it can slide out further. Yes it will be a bit longer when its fully extended.

My contract expires in April so I'm not too sure what to do as I am wondering when the next range of Nokias are coming out - ie the next flagship model. The N95 8gb isnt THAT much of an improvement, I am not sure if I can justify the expense, however it is tempting I admit.

It's a desirable item, no doubt about it, but thanks to my impatience, I'm not due to upgrade for another year. Happy enough with N95, really.

No, i know the spec is a little better, but not much point, il get the biggest memory card, i think its 8 or 6, 40pound sounds better than than 300.

looks like it's just me then! It's the RAM that swings me. At the minute I can only just run Jaiku while the web browser is open, so to be able to run quite a few apps at once will be brilliant.

I'll be sticking to my regular N95.
Like most of the others here, I'm on an 18 month contract and can't really justify paying to get out of it to get what is essentially what the N95 should have been in the first place.
I'll just get a bigger memory card when they come out and live with the RAM issue as i have done for the last 4 months.
Again, Nokia are bound to be working on their next top of the line N series model which will more than likely surface within the next 18 months, just when loads of people's contracts are coming to an end.

No this is my biggest problem too... I am extremely pissed off with Nokia for releasing the N95 with so little free RAM - its really an insult. I can't have the web browser and the music player open at the same time...... so the RAM is really the key reason for considering an upgrade to the 8Gb N95.
Problem is, the expense is not justified, unless you recoup the cost by selling the old one... but how much are those really going to fetch?
And if they are releasing the 8Gb model in November, Nokia are not likely to release another top-end model before Q2 next year.
And by the time next summer comes round, its possible there will be the iPhone 2nd gen out as well. And if this has video recording and GPS and bluetooth stereo and it can be unlocked (:)), then its a very credible alternative, unless Nokia has a very good successor to the N95

well the N82 is due Q2. I can't see a successor to the iPhone till this time next year at the very earliest.

I would certainly like that; the N95's limited RAM is a problem. However, while it's a problem I'd pay £100 to solve, £400+ is too much for me, when I only recently got this phone.

im keeping my N95, but i am being sent an N95 8GB from my buddy at Nokia :)

N95 8gb is top of my list for next phone, although hope this comes out soon as after canceling my 02 contract and putting my number on a PAYG Sim I need to sort something out soon.
Other phones in my short list include iPhone, HTC Touch Dual and E-TEN glofiish X800

Part of me is still wary of having a phone with a large amount of flash memory built into it, however, I do think that the N95 8gb will be better suited to being used as a music player than the standard N95. The N95 firmware/software is built around an assumption of capacity, with no real concept of having to worry about 8gb cards - the 8gb version will need to be able to deal with a lot more files, because Nokia have built in the capability. I don't think that my N95 will be able to cope with 6,000 tracks.
But, whilst I would like the extra ram in a way, I have no real need for it, and just keep my fingers crossed that Nokia treat it as a benchmark for minimum specs for their future hardware.

One thing worth noting. I am restricting the use of the Nokia browser and am using Opera Mini (available from mini.opera.com) It works just as well as the Nokia browser and isn't as memory intensive. Unlike the Nokia browser I can run both Opera and TomTom together as an example. If only I could tweak the N95 to open the Opera browser by default...

Im very tempted to be honest but given Nokias track record with bugs and glitches im quite sceptical of what the final version will be like. Also id like my next high end phone to be something different, im getting bored of the same S60/UIQ devices.
Guess ill wait it out.

a. Need for other users to get this one first. Won't buy another top $ Nokia device only to find out they forgot something vital again!
b. TomTom to run on the device. R66 and the other options are crap.
c. A good offer from my carrier :)

I've got a 'buckshee' N95 that a phone company sent me by mistake and has so far forgotten to ask me to return, even though they have cancelled my contract (in error, the useless iceholes!). I'm thinking of leaving it a bit longer and when i'm sure they've definitely forgotten about it, either selling it to subsidise a new 8gb model or just unlocking it to my current service, which should be offering me some sweet retention terms soonish.

I'm in the same boat as most people.. waited for the N95 to come out, .. upgraded in April to a 18 month contract.
Will have to read a few reviews of the 8gb to see whether its worth forking out more £££.. afterall its just a phone, and N95 does seem to do its job.. however more RAM, better build quality (???), bigger screen would be nice.
