well there's the one via's built in, TomTom and Route66. They all have plus and minus points. I personally use the built in Nokia Maps and TomTom.

There's also Map24, amAze and Nav4all. However, these three are practically useless.

munkimatt how do you find nokia maps, does it find every where you want, does it get you there ok? im using the free 3 day trial at the moment seems ok but just using it local. could really do with more than 3 days before you know its up to the job.

i think it works pretty well. I use it daily for my travels up to random areas in the north of cumbria. In fact it's bailed me out on a couple of occasions when my girlfriends satnav has given up totally wrong directions. On the other hand, it does sometimes have moments of total randomness! I've found that with the newer versions they seem to be much better.

Have a look at this thread http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64188
It shows screen shots of some of the well known SatNav software and one persons feelings for each product.

Personally, not too confident with the Nokia Maps app.

I'm going to Portsmouth next week and I've already checked the details on TomTom and Route 66, but I thought I'd give Maps a go too.

I programmed in the postcode I'm going to, and followed the demo it worked out for me.

Firstly it decided to take me on the scenic tour of my estate where I live (I live about 500 yards from the exit round two corners) but Maps decided to drive me right around the estate back past my house and to the exit.

Then, driving down the main road toward the motorway, it decided to miss the usual turn I make, go on 100 yards and do a u-turn in the middle of the road and come back up to the same junction it had missed. I turned it off after that, as that caused me some worry abouts it ability to navigate around towns.

So I'll be sticking to TomTom for my trip I think. Maps.... erm needs some working on.

When I brought my phone it came with 3 years free subscription, I have used Nokia maps a few times when I have gone out and either forgotten my bluetooth GPS or it's been flat.
It works ok, sometimes better then others but it's not a patch on TomTom. If it wasn't free for me don't think I would buy the subscription for it.
