I understand that the N82 is coming out Q1 next year but what about other phones? The N95 came out in late April (I think anyway, cant remember). I assume Nokia goes through a yearly update - if this is the case can we expect another flagship phone in April? Or at a guess since we have the N95 8gb the next iteration will be put off until later on in the year (am hoping not).

Anyway I got my N95 when it came out so just wondering what the market will be like at that point - lets hope for the Nokia uber touch phone or N95 8gb sucessor around Q2. Although a Nokia Aeon (http://funinlife.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/nokia_aeon_1.jpg)would be a touch too optimistic!

I think the N95 8Gb is going to cover the high end side of the market for quite some time. The next batch of Nokias will most likely be mid range items which are almost N95s with bits taken out, I would guess. The N81 sounds nice, but why build the 8 gb model with the N95 being available (sure it's cheaper, but the N91 had the mass storage side of things all to itself for a long time within the manufacturer's stable). The N82 will most likely be released when the original N95 sales drop below a certain level (or Sony, Samsung and LG start kicking the N95's backside) - then Nokia will know that they can go after the ditherers and more bargain minded with a cheaper 5mp camera phone.
I suspect that the next high end Nokia will be the touchscreen number, unless the rumoured internet tablet is a phone as well.
Has anyone got an email address for Nokia where you can pop in your wishlists? I think the touchscreen, with the features of the N95 8 gb (with the possible exceptions of the 5mp cam and GPS if they threaten to make it too bulky).

Interesting comments as I have partnered my N95 with a t-mobile Ameo.
So I have HSDPA on both, 8GB storage, touch screen when needed, pocketability with the N95, keyboard, loverly screen, TomTom up and running, etc, etc! And the versatility is unparalleled.
I dropped my tarrif to ufix 15 swapped the SIM for the new one which is on flext 50 and can use DUN from both to each other by Bluetooth.
Still working on the wifi.

The N81 appeals to me for its form factor, its dedicated gaming keys and the ipod naviwheel interface. I like smaller, thinner better looking phones in general - not ultraslim but thinner than the N95, however I am not sure I could do without the N95 functions now. The N81 is just that little bit lacking - ie no HSDPA, 2mp camera and no GPS. The sweet spot for me would be a thinner/sleeker/better built N95 8gb with a faster camera, 800x600 tv out (not beyond the realms of possibility - imagine this combined with a bluetooth mouse..) and slicker OS - Nokia are almost there..

I dont not know where SE are going with their touchscreen range - as far as I am concerned they are barking up the wrong tree - touchscreen with a stylus will never reach mass market and just doesnt appeal to me (can someone explain to me what the benefit of having a touchscreen mobile with stylus?? Apart from Scumm games of course!:p) - apple got it, touchscreen using fingers is the way forward - even better with tactile feedback.

Interesting combo, how is the keyboard on that? I have have been thinking also lately what the best combo would be - I played with the ipod touch the other day, and surfing the internet on it is an absolute joy, it really is - the screen size and its multitouch function are just perfect. The ultimate for me would be if I would combine my N95 with the touch so that I could use the touch for internet, and in the future if a keyboard and office mobile included - even better.

What's the portability factor on the Ameo - was tempted just before getting the N95 to see if it was viable, but was put off by the thought of the keyboard magnet wiping anything with a magnetic strip! (Is this true, or just something that has been blown out of proportion?)
I am thinking of partnering my N95, but with a smaller, cheaper phone for backup/emergencies (toying with the notion of a 2310 - or perhaps the retro route of a Sony Z7 with a payg card in it).
Certainly the HTC Shift looks fantastic, but I can happily say that my other partnership attempt has proven to be fruitful, in that I'm running Quickoffice and using the Nokia Wireless Keyboard (my first thought was 'why is it so much dearer?', my first thought upon using it for the first time was wondering if I would ever be able to put it down).

As for Sony touchscreen efforts, my very limited experience (at a 3point and a quick look at a P900) left me impressed enough to wonder if I would prefer the Nokia method. Once I'd tried Symbian though, I didn't give it a second thought since the d-pad is quicker anyway (the scroll bars are too small, hence the need for the stylus). I don't have an issue with having a stylus, although one review for the new LG Viewty (a bit like calling a car the Ford Turny - rubbish name) was not sure about the combo of fingers and stylus (the Viewty has what looks like a tube of lipstick hanging from the lanyard loop with the stylus inside - actually, it's mascara! Go LG!).

The N95 could be paired with the N800, but I think in terms of practicality, it would most likely be equally effective to link the N95 to a small portable TV (was considering a 7" TV - decided against it because it was 16:9 ratio, meaning that I would not gain as much screen real estate as I had hoped).
I think that the Nokia touchscreen, providing Nokia don't bin the wireless keyboard app, will be most likely close to my ideal, mainly because it would be (providing Nokia don't screw it up and make it a 'fashion phone' - the Prada is okay, and the Samsung Armani has potential, but the Nokia 'Top Shop' touchscreen could end up with no features and costing the earth because it's made out of bakelite) the N95 AND the Touch in one device.
Why is it that I did not realise that until I just typed it. Now I'm drooling...

The follow up to the N800 looks to be Nokias touchscreen effort as it seems to have some phone capability built in this time.

Hm. Hadn't really considered the possibility that they would only release the slider one and not bother with what the media termed the so-called iphone lookalike.
Not bad news though. I like the look of the tablet anyway, hopefully if it happens networks will get a hold of it, unlike the E90. Symbian plus touchscreen would not require huge rethinks, and could only run smoother, not worse (rather than a scroll bar, why not just place a border at the top and bottom of the screen to scroll up or down). It's the one thing that the iPhone and Prada have really got right. I handled a W950 last December when I was in two minds as to my next phone. When pressing a dummy model's keys I did just that, and felt something akin to squeezing a crisp packet from beneath the plastic. Put it down feeling somewhat surprised at the waste of space on the phone. Not to mentioned disgusted when I thought of the prices that were being charged.

On the N800 the OS was Linux based (I think) and I expect them to follow a similar path with the new one as they have a rather devout following now with their tablet devices.

I can live with Linux too. There's a little bit of fuss being generated over the latest from Asus, the eeePC, which is supposed to be dirt cheap (although if it comes out at £200 minimum, it won't stand a chance), running Linux. Very compact piece of kit, the only thing that would put me off is lack of wma compatibility out of the box (but I suspect that there are ways around that anyway).
How do you find using an onscreen qwerty keyboard Munkimatt? Watched a bit of your N800 review and the only negative point that I could really think of with it was (apart from the usual bout of wishful thinking like full phone and office apps which don't count) the lack of screen area compared to the overall size.

Well there's two way to use it. If you click to open the keypad and use the sylus you get the diddly little keyboard. However if you click with a finger, a large keyboard turns up instead. Very cool.

Won't be issue on the follow up seen as it has the slide out QWERTY.

I wouldn't mind the touchscreen keyboards staying, they would be more handy if you were texting someone whilst standing on a bus ('hlp me abt 2b muggd'), or if you just wanted to send something quickly.
If that is the final design, it would be nice if Nokia could use a hinge like that on the TyTN II, but even so, it's a stunning looking piece of kit.

I think they'd have both. Kinda make sense. And they're going to want to show off the touchscreen so they'll keep it in.

And yes, a hinge would be lovely!

Might be a bluetooth earpiece job though. Although if it's a similar size to the 770 and N800, big laughs could be ahoy! And there's enough room for a hinge of sorts (even if it means it has to come with a rubber stopper that you shove in the middle).
That said, I saw an American comparison of the iPhone with the N95, and the woman said that she thought that the iPhone was more comfortable in the hand. Cut to a shot of her holding the N95 in a relaxed palm, while the fingers of her other hand stretched around the wider but admittedly slimmer iPhone.

The XML file for the N82 has shown up today. Basically it's a non slider N95 with a Xenon flash.

Can't wait to see some live pics of the N82, really hoping that it does have TV-out. I might be able to get my mum to upgrade to it and give it to me :D

The keyboard is a bit fiddly to start with, but, I'm getting used to it.

I am finding that the Ameo is just like having a pocket book organiser with you although it would need a big pocket.
I guess any magnetic force can have a harmfull effect on strip, though I haven't had a problem.
Overall I am finding the two devices very workable together.

Not keen on the thin buttons - bit too Sonylike, for looks, and just too small for practicality. If it's a metal front on there, then it could be quite a looker - the only pics I can find at the mo are from when the original leak happened with both the N81 and N82. Considering that I didn't think much of the N81 from that picture, and what I think of that now that we have seen live pictures, the N82 might just turn out to be a bit gorgeous. If the front is clear plastic, then I'll probably just shake my head in disbelief, and pretend it's a clone or something.

Also, nice to see that Nokia will be using WIFI on all n range phones from now on.
