Hi,

We are using a 3uk usb modem to access the internet, in place of an old dial up (formally wanadoo) orange account.

We are having issues receiving email, sending works straight away, but receiving always fails.

Having rung three they have said it will never work because they don't have an smtp server????

So the questions I have are;

As three Ireland introduced an smtp server, do we think 3uk will?
Can I use a different smtp server? (It is currently something like smtp.wanadoo.co.uk or .com from memory).

They just told me to use webmail - which does work but isn't the simplest of things to send an email!

As ever,

many thanks in advance,

Trevor.

Remember that SMTP is for sending email, its either POP3 / IMAP that is used for receiving emails.

At the moment 3 doesn't have an SMTP server for 3rd party use - who knows if that will change in the future.

You should be able to receive smails OK using your usual POP3/IMAP settings.

For sending email, sadly at the moment the real only solution is using webmail - sending via another SMTP server will work, however you run the risk of your email being classed as SPAM due to all internet users being on the same IP.
