I recently signed up for mobile Broadband and it works brilliantly. I am actually using it in a HSDPA phone (6120) to save lugging my laptop and the USB 'pod' to work. I use this phone purely for data (email, web etc).

My main phone is on a SIM-only deal with O2 so I can drop it at any time. I'm now wondering about ditching O2 and moving completely to 3.

My 3 phone actually already works for calls but I have no allowance associated with it so I'm charged for each call. So is it possible to "add on" a minutes/texts plan to the 3 "Broadband" SIM?

No I think you can only add text add ons to a USB Modem account. It might be worth trying to change through customer services to a 'handset' priceplan (one with inclusive minutes etc) and then add on the Mobile Broadband package as an add on.

If you mean move the SIM, then yes I can confirm it works fine. I've also tried it in an unlocked W880i phone.

Thank you for answer. One more question - how about HTC Touch?

Its not a 3g phone im afraid so you may get barred for using it

You may get barred, but you most probably won't

Three only pick up on such things if you are consistently out of the 3G area and using the 2G connection.
