The 6120 is a nice phone, with a superb clear screen although I switched the theme to the standard nokia one as I found the T-Mobile theme got in the way for me.

The display for me is small for web browsing, but is usable.

One big plus for me is the key pad although its small I found it easy to use which I find is unusual in the newer phones.

The area around the joy stick was a bit fiddly to use at first, but soon got used to it.

It has the standard nokia menu set up and on this phone I left the active standby switched on as I found this useful on the the 6120, as I normally switch this feature off on my other phones.

A added bonus when you enter a phone number as it hits the end of the display the text does not shrink in size, it just scrolls onto the next line.

If you want a feature packed phone in a small package then I found the 6120 is a good phone and fits the bill.

Going through the menus, nokia have added a few extra features, compared with the N70.

On the down side I found the back of the case showed up finger prints all to easily, although not a problem for me as I use a case with all my phones.

As for keeping it, mine is on its way back to them, the only reason why I sending it back is I like the big screen like on the N95. I am probably going to go for the N95 or I am considering the vario 2.

As I also use a 3 phone, I will be ordering one to replace my old 6680 in the next few days.

Thanks,
Just wanted to know as a friend of mine is due a upgrade with T-Mobile. They have been offered a free 6120 and reduced flext 25 with W&W. Not sure if to go with that or wait the the K850.

Which phone was he currently using?

Like I am using a vario at the moment which has a large screen which is easier for web browsing but not as clear as the 6120.

The screen on the 6120 knocks the spots off the vario for clarity.

If he is planning to upgrade but is unsure of the phone, it could be better to upgrade via T-mobile via 150 on the phone (although you have to pay £6-99 postage) as you will then have 7 days to check the phone out. If you upgrade in a T-Mobile store you can not return the phone.

Well have just been looking at my friends 6120. He ordered it from T-Mobile yesterday and has just turned up. The keypad is quite small and fiddly but the screen is realy clear. It feels quite solid in the hand for a small handset. It seems to hold on to a 3G signal better then the N95 he tried. You also get a usefull 3.5 icon when you are downloading in 3G coverage which the N95 did not have. On the whole it seems a very nice phone but that keypad could be a problem. At least he has 7 days now to try it.

Does anyone know what the max data transfer rate on HSDPA is on the 6120 ?

Just to note, the N95 does have the 3.5G icon, but only in the V12 firmware.

This Nokia factsheet says up to 3.6Mbps:

Technically, higher speeds are possible via firmware upgrades.

I just receive the 6120 upgrade based on what good reviews it has and to have a more traditional mobile phone to complement my QTEK 9000 on a good tariff. However, I am wondering whether it would have beem better to get a Nokia 6288 or E65 (as free handsets). Any thoughts anyone?

The Nokia 6288 and the E65 are very different beasts. The 6288 is a Series 40 phone - that means it's a standard Nokia phone, not a smartphone. The E65 is an S60 3rd Edition smartphone, and also has WiFi. I'd generally say that the E65 is a much more capable phone by virtue of running Symbian OS so you can install third-party software and not be limited arbitrarily in the phone book and with messages, etc. However it's likely (though not confirmed) that the 6288 has a better battery life and is a little easier to use.

the 6120 is so nice, i have both the n95 and 6120c and love them, my 6120c was on t-mobile and iv flashed it to generic firmware and used nail varnish remover and a cotton bud to get the tmobile logo of the front and back, its now a generic 6120c........

Well having tried my mates N95 and the 6120c,the N95 might be the better phone but the 6120c can get a 3G signal in places that the N95 would have given up.

Just got new 6120. Still getting to grips with it really as i previously had an antique nokia with rubberised casing. Seems to work really quickly on the internet with a good signal. However, i have yet to see a 3.5 icon appear -only the 3G in the top left.

What network are you on, are you in a HSDPA area ? If your 3G signal is poor then it may not show up as the signal could be to weak.

Whilst on the subject, which operators offer HSDPA network coverage?

I know 3mobile do, albeit not fully rolled out til the beginning of November, but does anyone else offer it??

I believe that T-Mobile has HSDPA across the 3G network, although I wouldn't like to guarantee that.

I'm on 3. I live in Norwich, which i gather should be covered. The guy in the shop certainly said it should be fine!

Depending where i am in the house the 3G icon is there almost all the time - albeit with between 1 & 4 bars above. Maybe a tad borderline at home?

Whilst out & about towards hospital, university or city centre it seems better - with 3-5 bars. But still no 3.5G icon - where should it appear?

It should appear in the top left hand corner where the 3G icon is. It shows as 3.5g.
Have just checked 3s coverage for Norwich. I think the shop was telling porkies to get a sale out of you as there is no sign of HSDPA on 3 in Norwich. http://three.co.uk/personal/coverage_/coverageChecker.do

two questions: does the 6120 still overheat after a bit of use (I keep finding user reviews complaining of this)? Why isn't there a 6120 forum on this site?

pav

My 6120 did get warm after I made a 10 to 15 min call. I can't really say if it overheats at the moment, as I have not used it much.

On your second question I will ask admin to see if a section can be created.

Hi,
I've had E65 and now I am using 6120.Can tell You that E65 is far more better (larger screen, wifi) but the 6120 is more faster. Anyhow, if You had ever 6300 then imagine it with S60 UI...

my 6120 arrived yesterday. I already have an unlocked n95, but the only way to reduce my 3 contract was to sign up for a new one with a free phone, so i've given the 6120 to my girlfriend. I had a little play with it first. Lovely bright screen, but some of the buttons are a bit fiddly. Fast response, as others have said. Camera's ok for 2mp. Overall a nice little phone.

If anyone is looking for a cheap way to buy one of these for any network, I recently bought a white 6120 on 3 PAYG for £99 and just had it remotely unlocked for £25. Its working well on O2. :)

They can't be going for much more than £125 SIM free! I think the RRP on launch was only £170.

it depends on whats more important to u as a user! most people want the N95 because its the latest gadget, granted its a good phone, but for me the 6120 classic is the best phone ive ever had and my first smart phone. its small, got 2mp camera, flash, easy to use real player is the biggest bonus of that, can take an 8gb memory card and mine ive been lucky apart from the problem of a missing planet 3 link and one re start and re flash its behaved, s60 phones are always slightly buggy until they iron out the kinks! all thats better on an n95 is the camera and the screen size apart from that no real difference! the 6120c is a lot cheaper and much more compact, and the 3.5g is amazing! i must live in 3.5g coverage cause my downloads are sooo fast even doing music vid's and stuff! thumbs up for nokia, i wish they would hurry up with the updates though!

I reckon that the N95 is better because is had way more functions.

Although the N95 is way bigger. It has a really cool 2-way slide. 1 slide for the key pad and the other slide for the media player.

The N95's battery isn't too good either just to let you know. Only about 5hrs of talk time =\
