There is supposed to be a special PAYG SIM available for iphone buyers who fail the CC, true or false.

Not sure I have ben thinking about this aswell. Seen as it is a activate at home product I was wondering what happens if you fail the credit check too. AT&T have a PAYG option which is a pay as you use but they debit the amount from your account by Direct Debit as far as I am aware. I am sure that o2 must have a policy in place for this. If you buy in an Apple store they dont try and 'pre approve' you, this means you could get home unbox your iphone and then fail the CC and have to pay a 10% re stocking fee?? This wouldnt be allowed!

For the moment, there will not be a PayGo plan for the iPhone, one thing you will notice is that the SIM & Battery are fixed into the handset, only allowing THAT sim card to be registerd to phone.
From what i've heard (still waiting for more anouncments, admin is keeping quiet about it) that you only buy the handset from o2 (£269) over the till, none of that going through credit checks and address aproval.
I Don't know how they will be processing any CC. If you want to PM me your email, i'll find out tommorow what is going to happen and i will let you know.

From what i understand as the customer has paid for the handset cost, no matter what the credit status you will be connected on o2, more then likely the people with really bad history wil just have limits on the accounts for example not to exceed £x amount of call costs.

Thesim is not fixed into the phone, I already have an iphone and the sim is removeable, mine did come with an AT&T sim but i just took it out and replaced it with my Orange sim! Also you can buy Iphone in Apple Stores too and so not only through o2!

For the uk market, the only way you can activate the iphone is via o2 network, unless you hack it , the sim as marlin said will be removable.
Apple store, CPW and O2 stores will all be the only place to purchase this.

Well from what i've heard from other staff at o2, the sim is actualy fixed into the handset for the UK market... and rumours are that if its attempted to be hacked, it leaves the phone unusable. Pretty weird to be honnest, but 90% of the rules for the handset are given by apple itself. (eg: No o2 Branding etc)

There is no way the sim will be fixed, what would happen if you need a replacement sim card????? Also as you have paid £270 for it I dont think anyone would buy it if the sim was fixed into it!!!! :D

I think the SIM was fixed into the iphone on some of the first ones (but I could be wrong)
I doubt apple could get away with it over here anyway due to competition law.
Would be like going back to the bad old days of ETACS when your number was programmed into your handset. (hiss hiss "I'M ON THE BUS! THE BUS!" :D

Sims defo will not be fixed, if anything went wrong with sim, be a major problem to do a sim swop aswell as this if the handset needed to be fixed (warranty repair) customer would be without a sim card for X amount of days.

Marlin, the 10% restocking fee does not exist in the UK, its mainly a US thing. UK Law prohibits companies from charging a restocking fee, so there is no fee if the product is replaced.

Not quite sure why anyone would want to buy the iphone on anything other than PAYG unless you are an Apple die-hard and like filling Jobs' pockets.
I got to hand it to O2 though, there will be a massive market for the iphone (not least from the mac die hards I speak to on a daily basis who are really upset when I tell them the software I support is win only) and are only too happy to shell out wads of cash for the latest apple iDoorstop (I'm no fan of MS though btw).
I am a happy O2 customer using a P&G Sony Ericsson W300i (wish they'd come out with a 3G walkman flip and that O2 would make it available to P&G customers) and have nothing but praise for the service I've received (including the attempt from the poor soul that sounded as if she was being rained on by hailstones the size of golf balls), I've never had to wait long than a few seconds to speak to a customer service rep (on the few occasions I've had to do this, average wait on Virgin was 25 minutes and Branson still holds up VM customer service as the benchmark, ROFL)
Kepp up the excellent customer service O2 people.

I am sure I have encountered restocking fees in the UK before, infact John Lewis operate one.
I returned something and because it was open they wanted to charge me £45!
