Guys
I have had my N95 on T Mobile for 6 months now (having moved from 3).
I have to admit that I wholly regret the move - T mobile reception is at best very poor unless you are in city centre.
The signal fluctuates up and down, 3g to 2g and back even when in relatively good areas and drops to zero regularly. Also when I am in buildings the signal usually disappears.
It was never like that on 3 with my 6680 or any of my other phones.
Just wondered how you were all getting on with your N95's on the other networks? Is this a network issue or a phone issue?
Thanks,
DaveC

Not sure of the N95 but have been on T-Mobile for 6 months and travel frequently. Can't say I have ever had a problem with either quality of signal or it fluctuating between 3G and 2G The phone is a Vario II. But I have a k800i on Virgin and that's the same.

T mobile in my area is appaliling . I know of more than one person that has basically binned their 3g phones on more than one occasion with no success despite the promises of the so called street check. A load of marketing bull.
Since I am on 3 I have the best possible 3g coverage and have not had many issues. Fortunately I invested in an unbranded one so I can switch to GSM to stop it for ever switching GSM/UTMS and knackering the battery. That said 99% of the time I run dual mode with no issues.

My N95 is on T-Mobile (because of the web 'n' walk), and I also have a work phone on O2, and agree that T-Mobile isn't really good enough, certainly compared to O2.
Just a shame O2 don't offer unmetered data.... (and text message delivery reports... but that's another story!)

If you don't use the net much, switch to GSM mode only. That will stop it switching from 2G/3G. 3G doesn't work that good in buildings unless your near windows.
At my work place it jumps from 2g to 3g constantly but everywhere else has been good (London).

I switched from Orange to T-Mobile, and am now able to get reception in areas that Orange had no coverage at all. However, I have heard that O2 have the best overall coverage.

This still is an issue. Not sure why and it certainly isnt the handset. Something is a miss with their network where I live and it is only with 3g phones even when switched to 2g. Hence my previous comments.
Also it seems a bit pointless forking out for a 3g phone and then running it as only 2g.

Its an issue because of the re-selection parameter. you cant set it 'per environment' if you set it to avoid ping pong in building A, it wont work properly on street or in a car.
also, nokia 2g/3g phones (pre-N95), have lousy 2G radio's. they crash out at rxLev -100 or RXQual of 7.
OFCOM stats show O2 to have best 2G coverage, HOWEVER the reality is Vodafone cover more of the UK than any other network.
3, have by far the largest and best quality 3G network, however, they are let down by having to roam, and their choice in partner.
T-Mobile come last for 2g&3g.
in all, its horses for courses. get some free PAYG SIMs like scooby did and see which network is best for you in your area BEFORE signing a contract

Good post as ever Mr Planner. BTW the SIMs were not free, but 99p plus postage but well worth the investement if only to conclude 3 have the best 3g coverage from my experience so far.
