O2 will launch unlimited data downloads on 1 October for its prepay and contract customers for £7.50 a month.

The package is for users wanting to browse the internet and send emails and comes with a fair usage policy that offers around 200MB a month, which is equivalent to around 1,400 web pages.

This is the same deal that O2 have revealed several weeks ago. How in the hell can 200MB be classified as "fair use" - its hardly unlimited at all.

Web N Walk still wins...

Ok its not unlimited, nothing is unlimited, everything that claims to be unlimited always has a fair usage policy, the average customer will not go over 200mb a month, so well done o2.
people who are on techy forums such as this maybe, being a techy myself, i use the net on my bb, and pocket pc for all kind of useless crap, hell it kills time on the tube.

Because OFCOM are a complete waste of our money and will let telecoms companies get away with whatever fraudulent practices they wish.

I wish operators (fixed or mobile) wouldn't quote these figures of x number of web pages when trying to explain a cap as it has to do with content, not quantity.
The 'what counts as unlimited' argument has rumbled on in the fixed broadband market for ages with operators being wrapped on the knuckles for advertising 'unlimited' packages and tucking away the actual fair usage policy figure in the small print.
Ok as someone who supports software and network services for a large UK University I understand that there's always a technical limot to the amount of bandwidth available on any fixed or mobile network and so you have to impose limits on individuals to preserve both network availablity and stability as like it or not there will always be a small group that take the mickey and use crap like Kazaa or bittorrent to download (and upload stuff) 24/7.

However I do have a problem with companies using the unlimited label to advertise services because due to some loophole they can.

So it should be called the web 200 bolt and the max should be called Web Max (3Gig)

Doesn't sound as sensational in marketing terms but there's a lot to be said for being honest.
