...is RUBBISH!!!

I've had mine 2 weeks - got a 6Gb card and transferred half of my mp3 collection to it - I have to say I'm happy with the phone generally but BOY the MP3 player is awful!!! there is a constant low level hiss in the background, both when navigating with headphones on or at low level music playing....which leads me on to the volume - just 10 settings (0-100 in incremenets of 10) which by today's standards is just p*ss poor....
When one song starts and the next begins the whole thing freezes!?
You always have to pick the first song when you want to shuffle your music library....
No extra features like fade-in/out, in-depth equaliaser etc...

Not good enough Nokia!

Anyone know of any 3rd party jukeboxes that can be used on it instead?

Some people seem to suffer from the hiss more than others. If you find yours unacceptable then return it as faulty.

If you don't want to do that then it can be cured by using bluetooth headsets or the Nokia BH-500 bluetooth headphone adapter (with which you can use your own headphones).

No hiss from mine, just superb bass response and clarity from the standard headset. Would be good if the volume was +/- 5% though. :tired: :tired: :tired:

MP3 sucks on the N95, its not loud enough and the sound quality is utter garbage

get yourself a 2nd hand Nokia N91 or N91 8GB, absolutely amazing Audio, wipes the floor with ANY ipod aswell

I'm very bothered by the hiss, but it was just as noticeable on a shop assistant's own N95 and the store demo one, so I guessed I'm pretty out of luck where audio on the N95 is concerned. It's a good job it has a lot going for it otherwise or the audio quality would be the death of it for me.

Well the N95 is a PHONE with MP3 PLAYER, its not an MP3 PLAYER with PHONE :D

If you still want to use the N95 for audio playback and wired earphones/headphones use an attenuator/inline volume control and turn the phone volume up, then use the attenuator to set the volume to a comfortable level. Adds a bit of bulk, but good if you have no other options. :)
[edit] forgot the reason: it removes most of the hiss :)

I think I'll try one of these then?

The FAQs say that 'the control is an attenuator'.. and at that price it looks like it's worth a try.

Looks like it will do the job :)

i can only hear the hiss after a keypress. It comes on for a second and then stops.

It bothers me all the time from all audio on the phone that goes via its DSP, when using wired headphones or the earpiece. In fact, it's audible all the time in DivX Player when a video is open (very noticeable when paused) and Frozen Bubble.

That attenuator I linked to does indeed do the job - thanks! Someone in Maplin is confused though, as they told me it was a mini-amplifier and it wouldn't do the job. I kinda wish that it didn't have a long cable, because with the headset it now means that the cable is about two yards long, but still!
