Matt - where are you? lol

can you guys check something for me?

i have 6 of my contacts mobile phone numbers and normal landline numbers from where i work assigned to a ringtone called "Elves" from the N95`s internal ring tones
(quite appropriate for my colleagues, ha ha)
when any of them ring me, the N95`s speaker distorts badly, with crackling and horrid distortion! etc etc
my volume is only set at number 7 as the highest at 10 is way too loud!
anyway, when i go to the tones selection menu and manually go through all the different ring tones like this, the "elves" tone in question and any other internal tone does NOT distort, why do you think the distortion ONLY happens when someone calls me and NOT when going through each tune manually?

have i found yet ANOTHER bug?

I just gave this a try, the Elves tone sounds the same when selecting the ringtone and when someone calls in, no distortion at volume 7.

I tried assigning the Elves tone to a contact list entry for the phone I was calling from and changing the default ringtone for all other contacts to something else...I couldnt get the Elves tone to ring, it just played the default ringtone.

[EDIT] looks like my number or contact entry for the phone I was calling from might be duplicated or corrupted since the phone doesnt show the name in the call log, so it can't identify it and plays the default tone...doh

[double edit] managed to find the duplicate number and the custom ringtone Elves for the contact works and plays clearly. This is on a v12.0.013 generic EURO1 firmware on a CPW handset. hth :)

okay

in order to hear this (i just realised)

go to main phone menu, then go to TOOLS, then go to 3D tones and turn the effects to ON, then select "circular"
i have the 3D tones turnt on as i quite like the effect
make sure you select the ring tone "elves" in the 3D tones menu

after doing that, put volume to number 7, and ring yourself from your landline or another mobile, you will then hear the DISTORTION yes?

Bingo, I'm getting a single popping sound at one point early in the tone, like when plugging speakers into something and the speakers are on. Not quite as bad as you say in your first post but it could be the start for me :)

Do you have any reverberation effects or changed the trajectory speed in 3d tones that I may need to set?

[edit] volume 8 or 9 results in a resonating distortion, as if the speaker and the grille are rattling but nothing more than that and the first pop. :(

Waynester,

I was having the same problem with mine, and you guessed it I was using 3D Tones..............

Turned off the 3D Tones and it was fine.

I know it's of now help but I've found a better way of creating that 3D sound,

Every time my phone goes off I wave it from left to right of my head, the sound of the ringtone is fantastic but the looks from the people around me.......................@!?

Anyway, back in your box Beef.

Hope your well?

Keep tasting the gravy.

Beef - friggin hilarious, cheered me up no end!

i will now wave it in the Air like a mad man, ha ha ha

my point is though, WHY did Nokia even put 3D tones on this N95 if it CANNOT handle it without distorting!!

Grrrrrrrr
