Hi All, been watching this site for a fair few months and have gained a lot of useful information.

I have been with 02 for nearly 5 years now. I've had my up & downs with them.

Well any way I am a heavy texter, due to the work I do, I cannot really use my phone to make calls so end up texting.

I thought I was on a good tariff with O2 as it was on one of their very first sim only deals. for £35 a month 800 minutes & 2000 texts (double minutes and double texts).

So heres me texting away , racking up 3800 texts & 10 hours worth of calls. Yes I know bit excessive but I'm young so it's allowed . haha

I get my usual email reminder & see my phone bill... usually it's around the £40 mark; this time it's nearly 300 pounds !!!

Short story, I was offered a phone by O2 a while back & took it. When I took it I was asked if I was happy with my tariff... ofcourse who wouldn't be , so kept it . Turns out becuase I was took the phone they placed me on a tariff which was online 200. 200 mins & 500 texts . ouch.

Had a lengthy chat with retentions about this, said I wanted to leave, really unhappy with the my last bill as a result of someones lies, told them to keep the number as I didn't want any favours from them.

Then she won me over. In all fairness, I was polite to her & she was very nice about it all. She offered me another sim only deal. 3000 mins & 3000 texts for the same price.

In some ways I'm really happy with the contract but half of me wants to leave & join vodafone out of spite. Vodafone have a large array of phones in their arson and the deals they are doing now are very good compared to how they used to be.

So I guess I am just praising O2 for wanting to keep one of their customers. Not happy with the bill, but I guess its my own fault for not keeping tabs with my online account.

I dont think o2 is a bad company to deal with, only thing about them is their rubbish tarriffs.

I actually think they have amazing tariffs...I have the 3000+3000 tariff. On top of which I get unltd wkend 2000 mins and £5 discount. And a free P1i... So, yh, all in all, great tariff!

Something I would advise to all customers:

O2 usually bring out a new set of tariffs or update the old ones. I would therefore recommend you to ring O2 every 6 motnhs and ask them "Is the tariff im on now the best value for me and the best suited to my needs?" We can then compare your previous usage and discuss if needs be changing it for a better tariff and add service/products to cut down your costs. Dont forget you can change your tariff as much as you like. The only thing your not allowed to do is take say a £45 pm tariff then ring up after one month and get it changed to a £20pm contract.
You can change to a same value tariff or higher one at any time, to change to a cheapr tariff you can only do this after 9 months on your current tariff and at one price point at a time. After 9 months your then able to lower each motnh after that to another price point. For example:

Took £45pm contract in Jan
Able to downgrade it to £35 in Oct
Then Down to £30 in Nov
Then down to £25 in Dec etc...

Agreed... I usually advise customers who are tight on a budget to take a lower plan and see if they need it increased later on.

Also our tarrifs come with things that other networks don't provide... Like you can visit certain websites off your phone for free, you get to pick a bolt on like Unlimited Texts, or Unlimited Weekend calls...etc.

How the hell does someone get through 3000 mins and texts a month?

pctech: heh, I have a friend who got a £400 bill because he went over his 1200 minutes. That means he went over by £355!! I have no doubt that if you challenged him to go over 3000 minutes, he probably could. :)

I suppose the question is somewhat subjective as I don't use my phone a great deal as most people annoy me and I them (the curse of being a geek) :D

Provided I have an iPod full of trance and am sitting in front of a PC or dealing with a server than I'm a happy chap.

Might be advisable to tell your friend to use the phone to arrage to meet people instead of talking on it.

What ?!?! You mean some people actually have in-person interactions with other ACTUAL people these days ?!?

Isn't that what Video calling's for ? :D

Other people say its good to talk face to face without the aid of electronic devices, copper wire and fibre optics but I wouldn't know about that :D

Have to say, was surprised with O2's new branding ad, not a SIM card in sight nor Sean Bean mentioning a price plan but I suppose the idea was to make people look at their phone, pick it up and ring/text someone, I just thought 'nice visuals as always with O2 but bloody irritating music! Bring back Blood on the Motorway by DJ Shadow or the chill out version of Release the pressure by Leftfield'

Thing is, his calls never did last that long... he usually used it to find out who wanted to go for a spin heh. Now he uses mine, thank god for me I have the 3000 minute staff plan. I gave him my old Pay as you Go phone, and he's quite happy topping that up every day. Once he sorts his old bill out, I'll set him up a plan thats right for him - ie. 3000 Minutes, and Unlimited Weekend Calls Bolt-On.

A CB is also an alternative, 1-9 for a spin :D
